I own 7 cues and have come to understand I'm a player who loves cues (like many on here). I'm not serious enough a player to stick with one cue exclusively (I do feel switching cues even periodically affects your game), and I enjoy playing too much to have 15 cues in a dealer case collecting dust.
Right now, I'm comfortable having money invested in them, but that would probably change if I bought a house or other big investment.

I don't know why, they just seem to collect by them selves...
I've had a schon and an old 'C' series McDermott, but always liked the way a friends "$35 bucket cue" played, when he said he'd be willing to sell it, I was more than happy to toss $50 for it, still plays very nice and I don't need to take a blue flame stencled Player cue to draw flys.
