12.7 Or 13.2

Just wondering if there are any posters out there that went from around a 12.7mm shaft to a slightly thicker one, say around 13.2mm? And if so, did you find that it made a difference in your game?

I have been playing at around 12.75 for 15+ years now and might consider having a new 13.2 shaft made for me to see how I like the thicker shaft. Curious if it might make a difference.

Thoughts anyone?

I played with a 14mm for decades. I am now using thinner shafts, but only because I have acquired a lot of cues and that is what they came with.

The cue I have been playing with recently is about 13mm and it is a solid maple shaft with a one inch ferrule. The other cue in that bag is a carbon fiber cue with a 12mm carbon fiber shaft.

I don't change cues very often. I bought a Schon w/ a 1st gen predator 314 shaft in 2006. I played with it until last year, I purchased a Predator Roadline w/ a Revo 12.4 shaft. I would say the deflection is very similar.

I started with thin (12.5-12.8'sh and have settled on 12.7'sh) and purchased a 13mm 17 years ago and never could get used to it, just couldn't get used to such a stiff shaft. Tried for about 3-6 months then just put it away. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with the taper as well though. Quit playing for 14 years and tried multiple shaft diameters when I got back in and nope, still don't like the hit of a thicker shaft.

For what it's worth, that 0.5mm increase in width adds about 8% to the end mass, so it will produce more squirt - I don't know how much more (8%?).

I GREW UP PLAYING WITH 13MM TAPER + TIPS
SEVERAL YEARS AGO I SWITCHED TO 12MM
SOME SAY A MILLIMETER IS NOT THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE
TO ME IT HAS MADE A HUGE IMPROVEMENT IN MY CUE BALL CONTROL AND OVERALL GAME

I played for like 12 years with a 12.0mm maple shaft. Then stopped playing for like 5 years and went to a 12.75 314-2 when I can back and then to a 11.8 Z3 where I saw some improvement. Next I went to a 12.4 Revo thinking it would give me improvement, it didnt. I think its safe to say I play best with the 11.8 Z3.

I seem to have a serious issue getting consistent draw with the Revo 12.4 and the 314-2. I think it has to do with being afraid to cue as low as possible. It just looks/feels like I am as low as possible with the Revo and 314 and I'm not. I have to constantly tell myself to cue lower and even this seems to fail me. I think part of this comes from playing with that 12.0mm shaft for so long.

If you have been playing with a 12.7 for that long you might run into the same problem with the optical illusion that you are cueing low when you really aren't when you switch to the 13.2.

I also fell for the Revo marketing crap that it had less deflection than the other predator shafts but it clearly has more deflection than my Z3. This is another reason I like the z3 more. You will definitely see more deflection with that 13.2mm shaft and might not like that either.

I am however considering selling the Revo 12.4 and purchasing a 11.8mm Revo when they are widely available because I like the energy transfer of the Revo better than a z3 shaft better and at 11.8mm I feel it might be easier to naturally get good draw without having to think about it every shot.
