$1200.00 for a SHAFT?!?!?!?!?!?

Do you have any idea how much a searing shaft cost from dennis? Any idea how long it would take to get one from Dennis? If you can answer those two questions then you might have your answer...and if that doesnt work ask him to add a plain jane 1/2 ss joint butt to your order....

I apparently don't have any idea about a Searing shaft. That's why I asked. Why are his shafts so much?

The time is the biggest factor. Sort of defines the expression *it might take a while*....lol. I've got two Searing shafts made for a radial pin with two different collars. I've had both more than 10 years, I've not played them. Just kept them in my case. I would not have a problem accepting that kind of money but sure would have a hard time asking it. A friend wants them, I'm not sure how to price them.

For some it makes no difference and many may not be able to tell the difference. Those who can know when they get a shaft from Dennis in their hands and play with it the reason for all the hoopla....Dennis makes some of the best shafts of any maker. Materials and work are perfect and so is the process. Are the shafts worth $1000+? To the buyer who pays that they are.

Maybe I'm missing something.... But, why would a Searing shaft be worth that much?

Is it "worth that much?"

Asking and selling prices are not necessarily one in the same. Listing this shaft for $1,200 does not establish a value all by itself.

Here's a somewhat off topic question. I picked up a Searing shaft last years. In general, I like the feel, but at close to 13mm, it's too thick for my taste.

Now I'm stuck. Is it crazy to have someone that is not Dennis take it down to 12.5? If it's not crazy, then who would you use for this?

So I had a brief email conversation with this person. I mentioned to him that he might be overvaluing his billiard products a little. He tells me that this shaft came right from Dennis Searing and as he is no longer making cues so this shaft is highly valued. So I asked if my Scruggs SP should now be sold at $10,000, and he tells me, "Maybe if he died tomorrow..." He also tells me he was a "small table" champion several years ago, and his name is Coop.
I, admittedly, don't know much about Dennis Searing cues, they look nice and people seem to like them, but I can't imagine that any shaft (for a pool cue... get your minds out of the gutter), any shaft would cost $1200. It just seems a little "off" to me

If I were to buy a custom cue shaft, it would have to be fitted by the maker to the butt. I'm not paying a lot of money for a shaft that doesn't properly fit the cue, that's just silly to me.

Regarding the price there was a sneaky pete by Seering on here that sold for about 3k....After that nothing seems ludicrous anymore. How about a 50 dollar stick of gum? 150 dollar bread? 40 dollar bottled water? Sure, I bought a house cue some guy sawed in two and fitted a shaft to for 3k, i guess those prices are all right:rolleyes:

Trying to contact a guy like that sounds like brain damage, and as we've seen many
times before, it isn't going to change.
There are too many people bottom-feeding on Ebay, and I know that people cut deals after the fact, but to me it isn't worth it.
It's sometimes necessary to help when a guy inherits his grandfathers Balabushka or Rambow, but those sellers are typically pretty cool.
