groups 6 and 1 have lost their luster, imo, with the bad showing of robles and archer.

group 4 is all about souquet, sigel, and lee. this is the only group of the bunch with such a clear distinction between the cream and the crumb. the bottom 5 have shown absolutely ZIPPO against the top 3.

group 3 is the most fascinating to me. for obvious reasons,,,just look at the top four.

why is everyone taking such an insouscant attitude about mataya's cr@p,,,making group 7 the one i care least about.

i'm glad sigel and max are showing well. with archer and robles not having faired well, at least these two make the finals less cut and dried.

I'm happy that a 14.1 tournament is being held at all.:) It's nice to see something besides 9-ball. However the players who are NOT there is astonishing. There's probably a thread about how the players were selected; whether it was by invitation or by qualifier. But really there are only 8-10 interesting players. There are at least 25 additional top players who would have to be competing in order to make this a meaningful event. Perhaps in future years the field will get some depth to it.

Does anyone know how Orcullo got a spot? Did he win a qualifier? Did Manalo give him his spot (can a player even do that?)? If he was invited, why not Pagulayan instead (Efren, Manalo, and Busta have prior commitments to the San Miguel tour this weekend...but from what I know Alex won't be playing in the tour this weekend)?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Orcullo is there...but if I had to choose between the two, I would invite Alex. It definitely would have been interesting if Alex was there. I've read Willie's account of the Schmidt vs. Pagulayan straight pool money match (that Alex won), not to mention his good high run in this year's DCC. He would definitely be a contender if he was there.

Didn't Alex pull out of the San Miguel stop because he had prior commitments? Perhaps these commitments also prevented him from participating in the 14.1 event? Just a guess.

I'm with you Golfport,

We seem to be the only ones that feel this way. I thought I knew almost all the notable players either personally or by name. However, about half of the field in this tournament I've never heard of. Perhaps they can really play, and shock us all, but in truth there are a few, whose names I won't mention, that have had a horrible tournament and obviously don't belong there.

The great consolation however is that now that we are at the final 32, they have managed to eliminate the weaker players. As the bracket narrows at least the cream will rise to the top and it will be much more interesting to follow.

Regards,

Doug

Watch out if Orcullo learns to play 14.1. I would bet this is his first time playing the game. He may be the most talented pool player on planet Earth today. He just needs to learn these new games.

There is NO ONE in this field I would put up against Orcullo playing Rotation. I like Dennis against the world playing Rotation, or Ten Ball or
maybe even 9-Ball. Wait till you see him play. He is a phenomenal player, with unusual abilities.
