Well, it's bee about a month since I incorporated 14.1 in my practice routine (which is anything but routine - an hour here, two there, none for one or two days, etc.). I played some 9 ball with a couple of chums that I used to play even with two years or so ago. We played a "king of the hill" format and I beat them 5 - 0 - 0 and then another set 5 - 1 -1. 8 Ball went in a similar fashion.

I think that 14.1 is really helping my mental approach to all games. I now look at a 9 ball rack and just feel really comfortable with most table layouts. I mean really, there's ONLY 9 balls on the table! After playing 14.1 for a even a little while, that seems like nothing. Also, I seem to be playing better 8 Ball as well, which is odd, because I almost never play the game since I quit regular league play over two years ago. It must be that I am seeing more efficient and better ways to break out clusters and playing patters as well.

Also, I just ran 100 balls in straight pool. Oh wait, no I didn't. I was just fantasizing while staring out the window during my afternoon coffee break on this cold, wintery day at the office...

I don't usually play anything other than 14.1.
Last year when my brother came to town, I won our first 9 games of 9 ball. Even though I rarely played it, my game was going pretty good. (His high run in 14.1 is 70)

A few weeks ago a guy talked me into playing a little eight ball and I won 9-1. I had several run outs.

I think you are right.

I think practising 14.1 helps in the following areas:
1) learn to concentrate on every shot
2) don't take easy shots for granted
3) pattern play
4) good rhythm and stroke practice
5) learning precise cueball movements ... and many more.

If I don't feel comfortable with my stroke and/or I haven't played for some time, I always start playing 14.1. It's easy to start building confidence shooting easy shots over and over again. Starting off with difficult 9-ball table layouts can be a bit demoralizing.
