i am moving back to the usa in a couple of weeks. love of the game compels me to join some league to not only reduce costs of play but meet new players. where i live the cost of playing 2 hours (4 1/2 X 9) and a couple of beers is about $5.00! i started many years ago playing straight pool and would like to go back to it. are there any leagues for straight pool? i will be living in the atlanta area. has this been tried before and just not enough interest?

use the search function. There are leagues around. Chicago, New York, Minnesota come to mind.

Probably many more. Check with your local pool halls. I know Johnny Archer has a pool hall there and he likes straight pool. Maybe they can start something there if they do not already have one.

People on this site will be happy to help with pointers on handicapping, scheduling and things like that, if needed.

This is an attempt at a "national" 14.1 league system, but unfortunately the rooms that are members/participate in this league system are concentrated in the traditional 14.1 areas of the country (e.g. the northeast US -- NY, NJ, MA, PA, etc.), with a room here and there in FL, MN, and MI.

However, when you move back here in a few weeks, if you can get a local room in the Atlanta, GA area to sign-up on 14and1.com, perhaps you can get it to "snowball" in your area?

Just a thought,

Sean, thanks for the link. i checked it out and also sent them an email requested info. i have played jonhhy before in 8 & 9 ball but we did not have the time for 14.1, however, i know he loves the game. that is probably where i will be playing most of the time. maybe i can have johnny investigate the posibilities. i checked the website for his place but it did not mention a league fro 14.1, we can only hope. thanks again

Sadly, 14.1 doesn't exist much if any here in Atlanta. There's a guy on my side of town that has been trying to get a league started but so far it hasn't taken root.

I've mentioned to him that I would certainly be interested in getting involved if it were to come about.

Johnny's place is a 50 mile one way trip for me and is too far for a weekly thing.

It's a game I would love to learn to play but without the game being played around here, it's bust.

The only leagues around here revolve around 8 ball and 9 ball primarily. The other only exception to this is the new 6 Pocket league that I conduct and believe me, it was a difficult task to get started here but so far, those that have stuck with it are entranced by it and actually appreciate the challenge it presents. The game itself has been modeled in some part by 14.1 and in some part playing the ghost by not playing against an individual but a field of players.

Oldplayer,

I wish you much luck in getting it started over there when you get back here.

We have a 14.1 league in my home room that is run by Mosconiac on this board. He put together a ton of excel spreadsheets with all the pertinent information and developed a handicapping system as well. Its very well received by the players here. Im sure if you contacted him, he would be glad to get you going.
