We have a new straight pool scoring app available for Android devices.

It's a 'beta' test version and may have a bug or two. If you'd like to install it and check it out that would be great.

Please send your comments to info<at>cue-md.com or add them to this post.

You can get the app from the link at the bottom of this page....

Thanks in advance.

I can e-mail you the APK file for the program. Might be able to install it directly if you can read e-mail from your Kindle. PM me your e-mail address if you'd like.

The 14.1 Straight Pool Scorer for Android production version 1.0 is ready. Made a few fixes, improvements and it looks better on phones or tablets. If you have fat fingers a tablet's the best way to go.

Very easy to use, there's a Help button on the app that gives you the details (and the help also includes those racking rules that you sometimes forget).

Thanks to everyone who helped with the testing and gave feedback.

You can get your free copy from the bottom of the Downloads page on www.cue-md.com.

Enjoy and send any comments to info<at>cue-md.com.

Just downloaded your app and tried it out. I like it. I only used it through some practice racks so haven't yet seen any end of game features or stats, etc. But as far as functionality during a game, I could see myself using this instead of standard scoring beads or the counters built into the table. Having the data would be quite useful. Do you have a way to keep an archive of database of games, so you could look for trends, etc?

One small quibble: it wasn't clear that after marking the end of the inning as a miss, foul, etc, that the numbers in the middle of the screen were a scrollable pick list. It's very obvious now in hindsight, but at first look I was a little puzzled, and I'd actually read the instructions. You might want to mention to scroll the choices in the middle of the screen to get to the correct # of balls remaining.

Anyway, good job and good luck to you with this.

I finished a practice game using your scoring app and have a couple of additional comments. First, I think your app works very well and is quite easy to use. It forces you to indicate how your inning ended and then your score, which was a fault in another app I tried awhile ago.

Also, it's very easy to fix any mistakes in entry, which are bound to happen.

When I got to the end, though, and needed 8 to win, when I made the 8 balls there isn't really an appropriate way to indicate that. I'm forced to choose miss, safety, foul or new rack, none of which are correct. Perhaps another button to end the game, with a verification of how many balls are on the table like you do with miss, safety and foul.

Again, best of luck with this, I would recommend it to anyone with an android tablet. I haven't used it on my phone yet, but suspect it may be too small to use comfortably, especially for people who need reading glassed.

John,
Thanks for the comments/suggestions. We're keeping track of them all and will see what we can do for a new (possibly paid) version in the future.

We were hoping to donate the paid version to the Billiards Education Foundation (if there's enough interest in the app and by BEF) so they can keep the proceeds. There's been about 40 downloads of the 14.1 Scorer so far - that's OK but a few hundred would make it worth putting the time into for something like a trend tracking database. We didn't do this to make money directly, but to help out BEF and possibly build some more brand awareness for our commercial QMD stroke training device.

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,
Downloaded and used your app over the weekend. Really liked it, a few tweaks I'd suggest....larger scoreboard and fonts (us old guys can't read the small type), active players name listed on the screen (the bold is a little hard to reverence) both on the main page and at the top of the 'balls left/balls made' pop-up windows. John's suggestion of a library would also be cool.

Love the app, keep up the good work.
