OK here is the story my friends. Some of you older players remember the Eastern States 14.1 Championships held for a long time, there was a time when this was one of the most prestigious titles to win in the 14.1 world. You had to somehow weave your way through a host of 14.1 champions to win this title, players holding this title include Steve Mizerak, Allen Hopkins, Cisero Murphy, Jack Colavita, Mike Zuglan ond others. I was the promoter and TD of the last Eastern States 14.1 Championships back in 1995, in which Mike Zuglan won.
I have been thinking of doing the tournament again, along side my 14and1.com Nationals in Atlantic City since I already have the venue I think I could designate 4 tables to this effort and pull it off.
If I can put this together to run along side the 14and1.com Nationals May 29th, 30th & 31st, then this would be one of the best 14.1 extravaganzas seen in a long time, with maybe 50 players in the 14and1.com League Nationals playing seperately along side the 32 players in the Eastern States Championships, not to mention spectators and many local 14.1 enthusiasts there, it could really be a blast!
So what I am asking here of the top guns on AZ, would you commit to play?
Here would be the format if I have enough support.
Atlantic City Billiard Club
6701 Black Horse Pike
Egg Harbor Township, NJ
May 29th , 30th & 31st 2009 - Play starts at noon each day
4 Designated tables - Gold Crowns, Simonis 860
32 Player Limit
$125 Entry fee (prepaid by May 1st) - 100% payback
Double Elimination
Race to 125 Points
2 Hour Scheduled Match Times
1 Finals to 150 Points
100% entry payouts would be as follows - $4,000 pool based on full field of 32 players:
1st - $1,500
2nd - $1,000
3rd - $600
4th - $300
5th - 6th $200
7th - 8th $100
No added money but I will be paying for the venue and will provide some nice trophies for top 4 finishers. I also know where to stay down there on the cheap.
Maybe we could figure out how to do a free stream.
So, what do ya think top guns? would you commit to play?
I inserted a "commited players" list a few posts down in this thread.
If this goes off with a full field I will do this every year on approx. the same date.
Thanks
Kev
