OK people....a real good friend of mine is at the tourney and calling me with reports whenever something good happens. He got there last night around 8pm to meet up with Allen Hopkins for Allens first match, and a few beers......Allen had to forfeit the first round because he thought it was at 4pm....but it was at 2:30..:D .....sounds like things are going perfectly normal so far for the crew! BTW Allen was late because he was playing Mika Immonen....I"m not saying for how much.....but they basically broke even.

You can go to the Seyberts site for match info, I"m trying to catch more of the "Human" side of things:D

So, my reporter....lets call him "jimmy"... said the tables are nice, but a little easy, so there should be alot of high runs.

The Germans are playing real well, just like ball running machines.

Jimmy Mataya is starting crap and looking to get tossed.

The girls aren't doing very well.

No Jimmy Rempe in sight, so my pick is dark horse Florida Bob Maidhoff...who I put a wager on with "Jimmy" on the phone just as Bob walked by him....so Jimmy told him....and Bob thanked me....:D

Not much rail action so far, or matching up as everyone is still in the tourney.

Varner looked good from what he saw.

Charity event at the pool room in Allentown this weekend, so Allen and Jimmy will be there for that.....

More when I get it.....probably not til noon....Jimmy is most likely hung over!:D

Holy moly, Jose Garcia 0-3!!

Many consider him one of the best straight pool shooters...BTW, I really shouldn't be reading this report, unless I'm 1/2 drunk myself. Give me a minute...

Updates

I spent yesterday afternoon/nite there:

Best match-

Hohmann vs Minerich: Hohmann breaks, Meg plays a one pocket type of safe leaving a dicey combo, hohmann looks at it, strokes, nails it with authority, runs 99 more. Game. Megan was funny, afterwards in the hall, commenting about how she was basically a spectator in her match.

Best chirper-

Jimmy Mataya. Who else?! You know the routine; talking to the crowd, the TV crew at the next table, the fly on the wall...At one point, while playing Barouty, Mataya looked like his dog died after missing a bunch of easy shots. He then leaves Danny a long table 9 ball cut into the left corner, but if made, would open the rack. Danny looked at Mataya's safe and drilled the 9 ball, which started a big run. Mataya back to looking like his dog died again.

Best up and comers-

Nico Otterman and Jasmin Oushan. These two play really good. Real good.

On a side note, the amateur tables were diamond 7'er. All, except one, was set up well. The Pro arena could have used a little tweaking as far as the layout, but overall, I like the venue(Hilton) and I think it's a GREAT place for future events. Easy access to commute to, lots of parking, nice hotel and the entire 3rd floor dedicated to the event. I don't know the pricing, but I would imagine it's very competitive for the area. Also, it's an easy commute for NY'ers that don't have a car. Take a bus from Port Auth., to East Brunswick/Neilson Towers. It's 1 stop and costs around $15 round trip, and drops you off at the hotel. Good deal.

The next funny installment.....

Jimmy Mataya is playing a match with an Asian player, sorry I don't know his name. Asian guy is running somewhere in the 60's when he shoots an under the rack breaker....the ball jaws, runs across the table and back into the called pocket while cue ball gets stuck in the pack with no shot!...Jimmy gets up and spreads the balls out with his hand and said....."Hey, I don't want you to get a bad roll or anything!!!LOL.....CLASSIC! The Asian player I don't think speaks too much English, and He just kept on shooting!...:D

til later

My god I needed that laugh, but I'm still laughing! I can just picture Jimmy doing that. Poor guy is past his prime, but still has his wit! Or did I mean to say NitWit?

I'll find out from my bud Jimmy for ya....I know it's the new room in Allentown. I havn't gotten a chance to play there yet since I'm down in FLA now. From what he sais they have great equipment, and ACTION....which in my book = a great room!

Another quick update......there has been some trouble with the timing of the matches. Maybe not enough time allocated between matches, or not starting early enough. Anyway...Cindy Lee, and Charlie are doing there best, and I'm not about to fault anyone who is doing there best to keep a 14.1 championship going. All I can do is applaud them for their efforts, and wish them the best of luck!...

Let me know when and where with this Allentown room thing.

Well, as soon as he gets back in town, I told my Fiancee (who works at barley's..his local bar) to buy him a beer on me for this....its classic Jimmy.
And they wonder why he is barred from being on televised shows.

I think I could've made the top 3 in that field also! Lol! Although....8ball on the barbox is my best game! I thought I heard that there were 30 women signed up for the 9 ball. Unless I have a work miracle tomorrow, I won't be able to make the 9 ball event either. Looks like the girls in the 9 ball event will actually have to work a little for the top 3 (not like in the 8 ball).

I guess the charity event has got to be at either Gallery or Boulevard. Boulevard just reopened, I think.

I think I would like to go if the charity event is on Saturday. Allentown is an hour away, but it's still one of the closer rooms for me. There are no pool halls where I live!! Anyway, I work in Reading, which in only about 1/2 hour from Allentown. Maybe see ya on Saturday!

Well you won't see me there......I'm stuck in burning hot humid as a beeyotch Florida!:D I wish I was there. I used to live about 15 minutes from Reading in Douglassville. Real nice area.

Oh yea, Jimmy said Sigel is going mental with the non-stop chatter. He said you can't go 5 minutes without hearing him chirp.....:D

Gerry

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I was told Mike Sigel lost his match 148 to 150, and had a 10 point penalty. It seems he took a bathroom break early in the match, then a while later took a smoke break. When this happened his opponent went and got Cindy Lee for a ruling and she ONLY hit him with a 10 ball deduction. Apparently it's 10 points per minute late or in this case an extra break.....OUCH....those 10 balls may have cost him the tourney!

I'm as big a Sigel fan as there is, but from what I'm told He is really making quite the scene at this event. I"m all for fan interaction, but when it disrupts other players and matches.........shut your pie hole!:D
