Ok, all you oldsters out there. From left to right how many "LEDGENDS" can you name? I need the ID's especially of the two far right gentlemen and the man under the arrow. Grady, need your help here if possible. Any of you senior players please throw your 2c worth in.

the small man on the right, wearing dark glasses lokks like eddie macghean,{not sure of spelling}

Okay, I'm not that old, but I do have this picture at home and with help from some people we've id'd everyone.

I'll post back in a few hours.

Barbara

Hemicudas, Did you mean the 2 guys inside the yellow line or the last 2 at the table. I agree with the other poster, the guy in the dark glasses is definitely McGeehan, (we knew him as Chris).
He died in Ft Walton Beach, FL somewhere around 1985. His brother still lives there.

The only other one I recognize is Marshal (Squirrel) Carpenter. The tall guy with the cigar is probably Hubert Cokes. The far left is a little blurred, (may be just these old eyes) but looks like Eddie Taylor. The one under the arrow with the big ears may be Howard Barrett.

How about identifying the others for us?
AndyG

The one man to the left of the yellow arrow look like Jimmy Moore, and beneath the yellow arrow looks like Boston Shorty.

The three man to the right of the yellow arrow look like Hubert Cokes, Norman Hitchcock, and Johnny Vivas.

Okay, so I thought I had all the names. There are actually 16 players in the picture.

The names I have are (from right to left):

Joe Procita, Chris McGin (sp?), Johnny Irish, Hubert Cokes, Joey Spaeth, Boston Shorty, don't know who's standing behind him, Jimmy Moore, Johnny Vivas, "Handsome Danny" Jones, Marshall "The Tuscaloosa Squirrel" Carpenter, Earl Schriver, and Eddie Taylor.

If anyone out there can ID the others, I'd appreciate it!

Barbara

Hey $ Bill
The arrow is pointing to Sonny Springer. I talked to Sonny monday he said "Yea thats me, the big ears give it away" Sonny gave me another onepocket lesson monday. Even in his 70's he can still run 8 and out.
Later Carlton

To the very right of Chris McGeehan is another face, but the face to the left of "Daddy Warbucks" Cokes is a face that is in a picture hanging on the wall.

I forgot how we lined the names up to the faces from the right side! Can anyone out there put together this puzzle and finish with the names?

Barbara

Hi this is Fast, back from a little R&R, I&I. I attended every one of the Johnston City events from 62 to the 70's, Missed the first one, almost nobody showed, 12 players, that soon became over a hundred, each year it just got bigger and better.

The picture is the Janscos l961 Gamblers Jamboree one pocket tournament in Johnston City, Ill.

From the left: Eddie Taylor, Earl Schriver, Marshall Carpenter,
Danny Jones, Johnny Vives, Jimmy Moore, Larry Johnson, Joey Spaeth, Hubert Cokes, Johnny Irish Lineen, Chris McGehean, Joe Procita.

I have now id'ed them for you, I gave away one handle, let's have the rest of you come in and have some fun and put the handles on the names, which one is the cowboy, shorty, the squirrel, handsome, daddy warbucks. The two fat men Walderone, Martin Kiaman and Luther Lassister were soon to come and put the soul in to the event.

Oh Goody! I just got copied by FL only he made it so original by doing it left to right.

Hey Fast, someone ID'd the guy standing behind Boston Shorty. You missed that post.

And who are the two on the right? Jimmy Caras couldn't remember. That's who I got this picture and some of the names from!. Harley from Jax provided more.

Barbara

Barbara, you are exactly right. Only Carlton nailed Sonny Springer. Thanks Larry but I still haven't heard the names of the 2 gentlemen on the far right. Grady? $Bill calling. You have a few days before your tournament so get on line and help name these two guys. Erman? Becky? Take a shot. AndyG was right, Eddy was known as Chris in FWB in the 70s. He repaired cues there and claimed to be the real "Fast" Eddy.

Jimmy Caras and Willie Mosconi never played in the Johnson City events. They were being sponsored by Brunswick at the time and Brunswick didn't want their reps sullied by being associated with the event.

These guys in the pic are either too old to care or dead. So what's the problem with identifying them?

And as for Jimmy just only playing for tin cups, well, he had a family and had to put food on the table, too. Hell, he even had a "real" job at the Philly Shipyards during WWII. That's where my Dad met him. And I met Jimmy through my Dad.

Barbara

Larry, thank you for naming the 12 you named. I am still looking for the names of the 2 gentlemen on the far right. Carlton got Sunny Springer, just the 2 left.

Just wondering Larry, did you know Sunny Springer? Thanks,,,,,Me.

Gamblers Jamboree one-pocket tournament. What a great opportunity to see all of those great legends.

By the way, do you see Norman Hitchcock in that photo? I am trying to place the names with the faces in the photo. Who is that standing behind and to the right of Boston Shorty?

Your OTHER right Larry. Just kidding Larry, don't get mad. Eddy and Earl are, as you have stated before, on the far LEFT. Larry, the 2 men I would like to ID are the 2 on the far RIGHT, inside the yellow half circle. Thanks for your help. Hope you understand now.

How about that Big Bird that's been lurking for 2 or 3 months. You know the 2 guys on the far right?

Hello,
I did not invent whiskey. However, all the ingredients needed to make it are available for the people of Planet Grah 243, or Earth as you call it. God provides everything you need. Take what you need.

FACE IN THE PICTURE

Barbara, as I said before, "You dun good girl" but the face you think is in the picture is actually a real person. If you look closely you will notice the face is much too far to the left to be centered in the picture. The person behind "Daddy Warbucks" is his un-named body guard.

A cropped version of the picture appears at the front of Eddie Robbins second book on one-pocket, Shots, Moves, and Strategies. The 2 gentlemen in the yellow circle were cut out.

The people in the photo from left to right are:

Eddie “The Knoxville Bear” Taylor, Earl Schriver , Marshall “Tuscaloosa Squirrel" Carpenter, "Handsome" Danny Jones, "Connecticut” Johnny Vives, Jimmy “Cowboy" Moore, Larry "Boston Shorty" Johnson, Tex Jeans "Sonny" Springer (behind Shorty, marked with yellow arrow), Joey Spaeth, Cokes' bodyguard (name unknown), Hubert "Daddy Warbucks" Cokes, Johnny Irish, Eddie "Chris" McGeehan, “Unknown ?” (in background), Joe Procita, and two “Unknowns ?” (in background circled in yellow, they were cropped from the picture that appears in S,M,&S). This info courtesy of the "PROFESSOR" R.H. Gilmer at SouthernBilliards.com.

I still need the IDs on the 2 gentlemen in the yellow circle. HELP
