I just noticed this while I was looking for something else in the National Billiard News archive which is available in the "GoldMine" on the AZB front page (for gold members only).

I'm not sure why Kubo was playing in the US "national" championship, but at least he didn't win it. Of those players, I played against Valdespino and met Hynes and McGoorty briefly. Pentaris is (IIRC) Deno Andrews' grandfather. And Yanez was the carom player in Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land.

An interesting point to note is that Kubo had by far the best game (28 innings) and in that game his opponent (Valdespino) had one of his best averages although he lost badly. It would be interesting to have a statistic of "safety strength" by looking at how well or poorly opponents averaged against a player compared to those opponents' overall averages.
