Hi there. This is my first post here writing from the Netherlands.
I was wondering if you guys could help me out. About 2 years ago i fell in love with a Viking C800. Found it on a national site just like ebay. The cue was unused. The seller told me that it once cost about 1100 euro.
I had no idea what to expect so i bought it. Not for the price mentioned...it was a bargain.
As I could not find the the cue on the net nor in de Blue book I wrote to Viking US. They told me that it was the top series made between 1993-1995 and would have cost about 1200 US dollar back then.
The finish was cracked at the points at some places so I decided to get it refinished by a cue maker (Penrose) and get a lizzard grip on it.The result is great!I have played the cue since then and I love it.
About a week ago the following happend while playing a tournament. I put the cue down...straight....on the bumper. And i heared someting. Inspecting the cue i found a crack in the butt cap. I put the cue back in the case so it will not crack any further.
Now i have a dilemma. I do not know if this cue is still of any value. Not that I would sell it at the moment but I have to make a decission. Or send it to Viking US and get the Butt cap replaces bu an original one or ask Penrose to fix it. The quality that Penrose delivers is great and I do not doubt about that. BUT. If this cue might be something special I would like to keep it original and therefor send it to the states. This would cost me a lot. Incl. transport...tax papers and the bill I would have to pay viking that would be arround 400 euro!!!
So my question is. Is this cue worth it or not to spend that kind of cash to keep it original. I find it funny that according to Viking I play a top line cue from the mid 90's and the cue is nowhere to find.
