$1k Cue Ball …..

Seaspook

Has-Been
That’s right….$1000 for a Cue Ball.

My hobby is Collecting Antique Fishing Lures and related items….This week…. On a Lure Collector Facebook group I follow a unique “HEDDON PERMAGLASS” cue ball recently auctioned for $1000. Story was that Charles Heddon‘s son was a player back in the day.

As a reference, many early lures sell in the thousands of dollars, some selected items from the 70’s and 80’s sell for hundreds……but most from that period are only worth a couple bucks. If interested, I can post links to a couple of guys who are knowledgeable and honest in their appraisal.

I have a few antique lures from my grandfather.
Is there a "Holy Grail" of lures out there?

As a child, I owned a Star Wars action figure that people talk about almost like it was only a legend.
My mother made me return it because it was a "choking hazard". I was old enough to not eat toys...
No idea what that would have been worth today. Ugh...

About 20 years ago, a “one off” Musky Haskell Minnow came in off the street at a NFLCC lure show…..it brought $115,000 at auction. Smaller examples sell for $15k-$35k. Send me some pictures of your grandfather’s collection ….I will tell you what I can about them

Wow, that's some serious money right there.
Thank you for the offer of your time/knowledge on the subject. I'll message some pics when I get time.

The legendary one was never really produced, it may only have existed as a prototype: Rocket firing Boba Fett, with a J slot, that is worth enough for an Italian meal.

In Italy. Including plane tickets and hotel. And a Ferrari to take home on way back.

Outside of things like ignoring BitCoin when it was going for cents, we all must have old items that were tossed or sold for cheap years ago. I sold most of my comic collection, 3-4 long boxes that held a few 100 each, for $75. Now there are single issues I used to own that are worth $300 out of that collection.

On the other hand, I kept my stamp collection until a few years ago -- hadn't touched it since high school. When I went to try to sell it, I learned that old, mint US stamps are worth about 70% of face value. It's fun covering a package with 3- and 4-cent stamps to get up to a couple of dollars postage. (They don't expire.)

The "forever" stamps are a great investment. However, I have a nasty suspicion that somewhere down the line we are going to find out just how long forever is!

I owned the original with the spring-projected red missile thing.
It was deemed a choking hazard.
Montgomery Ward did the recall giving me the new fix-mounted fett and a marchbox car in exchange for the unicorn.
