So We are doing an event this weekend in Lincoln, Ne as some of you may already know. Nick Varner is taking on "Team Drifters" in a set of 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 14.1 and 1 pocket oh and Scotch Doubles. Tonight is a mini show and then the doubles.
As usual we like to arrive a day early just in case of delayed flights or any problems with travel. So yesterday morning was the start of the trip for me (Thursday) Got up checked on my flight and the weather in Lincoln and found it was going to be as cold as I thought it was 35 but feels like 25. Coming from Arizona its a little bit of a shock to the system even if you are expecting it. that wind cuts like a knife.
I wasn't looking forward to the travel at all in fact dreading it. I had a lkayover in Denver from Phoenix and then on tho lincoln. I think I set myself up for a real crappy day of traveling so much that when I actually got to traveling it really wasn't that bad. I arrived in Lincoln on time and my friend Bob picked me up and O only had to wait for 5 mins. However that 5 mins seemed alot longer once that wind started whipping around the building at me. When he pulled up he saw my scowel that I usually have when just ariving in Nebraska and he began laughing right away knowing what I was going to say. Bob said "Whats wrong with you it's nice today?" Whatever.
We head toward my hotel and I suggest, "lets go have a beer at the pool room first" So off we go for a quick beer and say hi to a couple people who were in there that we know. The plan at this point is to get me checked into the hotel and then Bob is going to pick up up at 7pm and Nick and I were going to go to have dinner at Bob's with a couple other people. All goes to plan and on the way to Bob's we decide to stop and get a bottle of wine. All goes well there too until we head back out to the car. Its parked by a curb and I half step on the curb and roll my ankle way over. Right away it hurts but after the initial pain it eased off and I was able to walk almost fine with a slight limp that I figured I could just walk off. We get to the house and get to chatting for a while and then I have to get up. Well as I am sure most of you know these things tend to stiffen up once you stop and let it rest any amount of time. The pain as I put pressure on that foot shot through my whole body and I almost went face first again. Now I am no longer limping I am hobbeling. After sitting down a little longer and enjoying my evening with Nick and a few others telling stories its time to get back to the hotel for some rest. Now my foot is throbbing just as I sat and so the hobbling became a slow shuffle trying to not let any pressure on that foot.
Nick dropped me at the front door and I waited for him to park the car. He suggested that I should get on the luggage cart at the hotel and he would push me up to my room. It actually sounded like a good idea but it was close to midnight and I could only imagine what the management would say or do if they saw Nick pushing me around the hotel on the luggage cart. so we decided against it.
I didn't sleep very well last night and woke up to find my foot was even worse. I knew it and I would go to the doctor but I know what it is that I have done. I have done it a few times before while playing Basketball and volleyball. Its really just a bad sprain and there really isn't much that can be done other than some pain meds.
Times like this I appreciate what people who are in a wheelchair have to go through on a daily basis. Simple things become a chore. I called the front desk and asked if by chance they had a wheelchair, they explained that they didn't and asked what happened. I told her the story and although sounding very simpathetic to my situation she told me that I could go to the vending machine and get Ibuprophen and they have large buckets down there and if I wanted to come down she would give me one to fill with ice to ice my foot. At this point I am having a real problem getting from my chair to the bathroon and she wants me walking all over the hotel. Anyway.
It turns out that next to the pool room is a medical supply store and the owner of the pool room got them to lend me a wheelchair I just found out. So whoo hoo. I will be at least a little mobile for the next couple days.
I think we are going to head over to the pool room in an hour or so and Nick is going to hit some balls and get ready for tonight. Not sure what will happen next. but we start at 7pm. I will be back later with an update.

Sorry to hear about your foot/ankle.

Being in a wheelchair makes those mid-table jump shots a real challenge.

Hoping for your quick recovery. And best with the tournament.
