First Find: I was at my Dad's the other morning and he had started a fire in his stove to get the morning chill out. I noticed a bad smell from it, like burning hair. He can't smell, so he didn't notice it. I asked him what did he use to start the fire, and he explained that he was asked by a person he does volunteer work for, to get rid of an old piano so he took it apart and was using the wood to burn. He was using the keys as a fire starter

Out of 50 or so IVORY covered keys, he had burn all but 5. All I could do was shake my head...The slabs are 2 thicknesses, .030" and .050" and are not worn, just discolored. I plan to use these for stitch rings at some point.
Second find: I split the wood this week from a Norway Maple I took down 2 yrs. ago and found a lot of it has spalted, even the 3.5 ft wide trunk pieces, even in the middle. Some even has severe curl to it. I have selected the most dense and best looking pieces and have sealed them and hope to be able to use them in a couple of years. I included some pics. Just wanted to share my lucky finds.
