I JUST GOT THESE BACK FROM PETE. THE POINTED CUE, HAS ALL HAND CUT INLAYS. I CAN'T IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT TOOK.........THE BAR CUE, IS ONE SOLID PIECE OF PADUK. VERY EARLY CUE, THE BARS IN THE FOREARM ARE ACTUALLY TIN STACKED VENEERS. THERE HAS TO BE AT LEAST 200 OR MORE VENEERS IN EACH LONG BAR. I HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE EM. I'LL BE TAKING NEW FAMILY PHOTOS SHORTLY.

THANKS GUY,
I'LL BE PUTTING THEM ALL SIDE BY SIDE SHORTLY. MAKE YOUR PIC THEN OF YOUR FAVORITE.

P.S. I MAY HAVE A NICE MOP INLAYED CUE FOR SALE. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED LET ME KNOW.

You never cease to amaze me with each new piece you uncover from either the dark vaults or from a new FEDEX box.
Will not ask you how you do it but will only hope you keep posting pictures of these beauties for me to drool over.
See you are going up to Gentleman Jims. Is this Ken Kerner’s place? If it is, I am hoping to head up there some time in June with a stop for a couple of hours (have to get away from family for some reason).

Later,
Myron

Wow!

I thought my cue was orange! The fancy cue is out of sight! It looks like you will be buisy for a while wiping drool off those cues! Wipe, drool, wipe, drool. :D :D
Thanks Marcus!
Keep in touch,
Nick :)

MYRON,
THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS. I MET PETE LAST NIGHT AT KEN KERNERS PLACE. IT'S CALLED DIAMOND JIM'S, AND IT'S IN NANUET NY. IF YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE COMING UP, LET ME KNOW, I'LL TRY TO GET OVER THERE.

I have the address and the phone number to Ken. It is only 15 miles from my sisters home. Just waiting on the date and details for a graduation in June. There should be enough time to provide both Kens and you a heads up. Maybe even bang a ball around or two.

marcus, the veneer work is that bar cue is unbelievable. i can't imagine the patience it took to put that together.

Marcus,
The bar cue came out really nice. Big difference.

NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE. IT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE THE SAME CUE. THE NEW SHAFTS HAVE COLLARS THAT AREN'T EXACTLY THE RIGHT COLOR THOUGH. DO YOU THINK I COULD GET MERK TO THROW ME THOSE OTHER TWO SHAFTS SO I CAN USE THE COLLARS? MAYBE YOU'LL HAVE TO MAKE A TRIP OVER TO SEE IT IN PERSON. LET ME KNOW.

I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW IF EACH PIECE OF VENEER COUNTS AS AN INLAY? WHAT WOULD A TASCARELLA WITH 1200 INLAYS BE WORTH?

THE STACKED BARS ARE ACTUALLY PIECES THAT YOU COULD BUY AT THAT POINT IN TIME. THEY WERE MAINLY USED AS INLAY IN CUSTOM GUITARS. THIS IS THE ONLY CUE I HAVE EVER SEEN WITH THEM IN IT.

Still counting

HAL,
I THOUGHT ABOUT COUNTING THEM, BUT I REALIZED VERY QUICKLY THAT I'M WAY TO LAZY FOR THAT.

Purfling is the correct term. These appear to have been pieces that would normally have been used on the backside of an acoustic guitar, usually right up the middle...made for a visually more pleasing 'seam' between the bookmatched pieces of quartersawn wood. Purfling is also used around the edges of a guitar, and also sometimes on either side of the fretboard, on the neck, and the headstock. Usually used most often to decorate classical and/or flamenco, and Spanish guitars.

A very neat design idea, who would have thunk?...lol.

I really like the ebony and BEM cue. The peacock in the ebony point though, shouldn't that be sharper and not rounded like it is?

NORMALLY PETE'S INLAYS ARE SHARPER. THIS CUE WAS ORDERED THIS WAY, AND ALL THE INLAYS AND ALL THE POCKETS WERE CUT BY HAND. I CAN'T IMAGINE THE TIME IT TOOK TO BUILD THIS CUE.
