Hi

I found 2 items in france that i like alot. I'm trying to get a value and double check if they are original at the moment. I did find all the info off who made it, where etc. It is not was i am used to collect, but i'm sure i can find a nice display for them and they will fit in nicely.

First one is a plate from 1867.
The name Agnae refers to the wife of one of the french kings.
payed 12 euro's

second is a lithographic from 1858 with original frame and signed.
HUGE details in it, check out the cue from the priest. Ivory and leather bottem, beveled points on the butt, looks like two butterfly's. Also not the ball store thing under the table. ive only seen B/W prints of it, but never one in colour. payed 25 euro's

perfect investment and i'm sure some might enjoy the pictures of these unusual items. :D enjoy.

now i just need to build my home and poolroom with my mini-collection.

Exceptional finds.

I am sure many high end collectors are envious of your find.

Congratulations.

Very nice...is that Luke Skywalker in the second pic or just a reflection! ;)

In the second picture that lady is sharking the shooter. I'll bet that dish is worth a few bucks. Johnnyt

i'm not going to get too excited yet (ok ok, i am a bit, who wouldnt), but the painting might be worth loads more then the plate... Waiting for some responses from auction houses, but i've seen printercopy's go for = 125$, i found two B/W prints of it: one for sale for = 950?, the other is in London in the british museum.

If its the original colour lythograph, i found an auctionhouse who sold 4 of those for 16.000$. (Vincent Van gogh actually worked as a businessparter at the french art house where they are from, so i found LOADS of information on the origin of the painting.)

with my luck , i'll be a crap copy but you never know... but it looks authentic to me and the frame it came from looks original too.. :D , . Anyway, they look awsome and are just the kind of things that made my heart go when i saw them and when i saw the asking price. :happydance: I didn't know what they where or wherent worth when i bought them, and i didnt care at that moment.

anyway, 2 new pieces and my collection is growing :D

i'm addicted and its hard to stick to the budget my wife alows me to spend for each month. :sorry:

Solartje - Great Find! Nice Front view, but what on the backside view. You know I'm talking of markings, signature, date, and other items found on the back. Love to see both the plate and lithographic Backside, did you take any pictures.

The mark of the plate is not fully visible, a good part has faded, but i managed to find what it was. (I added the picture of a perfect markings, mine is gone for 50% but still clearly visible)

Did you mean 1858 instead of 1958?

If I made it out right - lytho show New York published by Knoedler & Co? I would see what actual dated they printed the lytho and when the company started and if the company is still in business. This could be the 3rd printing or 1st USA printing?? Which should be different dated than the original printed date. Not the painted Date.

What information is on the 3"x5" card? Is it original, from the seller, or from an auction. Should be like a shipping tag.

The Plate can fall into other categories beside billiard. Should be numbers or other marks. Full plate picture would be nice.

I'm no expert! Take this information as you see fit.

Whether they are worth a bunch of money or not, they sure look great!!!
Congrats!!

B,

First off, congratulations to you and your new bride. Hopefully everything went well and you had a good summer.

I am glad to see that you still have the collecting bug. You can never have too much memorabilia.

I have seen reprints of the litho you have attached. One thing I have never noticed with the image, there is a cat under the table. I don?t think I have ever seen anything but a dog pictured under a billiard table. My guess is that the artist also owned a cat. Good luck, hopefully it is an original, with a value near what you stated.

I have seen the plate before, or one very similar. Did you buy this about month or so ago?

You must be quite pleased to add these two pieces to your collection. A suggestion with the print, make sure that the backing is acid free. If not, changing it while you are having it appraised, would be the ideal time.

Good luck and continue hunting.

Mike
