2+ Questions for Deno

I imagine that technically all the players will be considered independent contractors just like extras working in a movie who might get paid $50 for sitting around waiting a couple days before they are called before the camera. As independent contractors the company does not have to deduct taxes for the Gov't. Nor do they pay for any hospitalization. A lot of nurses work that way. But independent contractors are still employees. And all the players will earn money for this tournament. $6200. For that paycheck they are expected to participate in the tournament and to attend the pre-game meetings. To conform to the rules set up by the tournament, play at their best level, and to be very nice to Jake.

LOL

Jake

Jake,

I hope it is clear that the top 43 are getting paid in this one, but the other 107 players flying in for the mandatory meeting are not. I do not think we are even going to be considered independent contractors, just players on a tour, like every other tour out there. The difference is in the payouts. ;)

Linda, I find myself agreeing with your last 2 posts! Shock-Horror! LOL Although I may disagree with you :) , its nothing personal. I may sometimes come across as 'venomous'[ sorry] but I,m not bitter. :p

You are right. You are a PLAYER, not an employee, independant contractor, etc.....a player! its a Gdm pool tournament for Chrisake.
Its going to be a great experience being among the best players and I hope you have a great time, but dont forget what you are there for.....to kick ass! :)
The non pros who are playing in the first T are not going to get drastically better between now and Feb even if they practice everyday.
The best thing to do now is to play as many tournys you can so that on the day , at least you can perform . You dont want to be so be taken by the enviroment and everything else thats going on,that the game becomes secondary an its all a blur.
Bernie is so excited, I dont think on the day he will be able to chalk his cue!

Thanks Gabber! I am just going to try and take it game by game, ball by ball and stay focused. Win or lose all my matches, I just want to play my best game and the rest will fall into place.

Exactly! Can you see anyone giving up their spot even if they have no chance of cashing in? In my defense, I have broken and run 6 racks of 8ball in a row on an 8 footer. So I can play a little. ;) I told them from the beginning I didn't want to go unless my husband got picked (he has a good shot of making $). Looking back, how arrogant was that? After the list came out, the enormity of how small the field was compared to the hundreds that still deserved to be on it, much less that only 15 women in the world were chosen, just humbled me. What an honor to be making history! Go IPT!!!!

I know you are a good player. I wish you well. You are going up against tough odds but it all started with having the presence to apply. I didn't bother to apply because I figured my chances were slim to none. No matter what happens you will be able to say you were there and that counts for a lot.

I'll see you at the event. Good luck to you, your husband and Stan.

Oh Linda I do agree with you about being an employee and I am just postulating a theory which has no basis in fact. But I do believe that the tournament between LJJ and MS and the tournament that is coming up in November are more than just any another tournament. You all are on the leading edge of a whole new concept. And I hope you all make the best of it. You will all be getting media attention that can get you a lot more money than you will win during the tournament.

I am sure that Cutec Cues is hoping Earl's performance/demeanor will put them in the spotlight. Just think how many dollars it will be worth to Cuetec Cues if Allison and Strickland do well. And Preditor if Charlie does well. And every other sponsor who has a champion in the game. And how many sponsors are now approaching some of the pros and are willing to sponsor them? Just for the chance that they may appear on TV where millions of people can see them. Where time is sold by seconds of exposure. I sure could not afford a 15 second commercial during the Super bowl. Or even 5 seconds for that matter.

So make the best of it. And put your best foot forward.

Yes, you all will be competing against each other. And you all want to be the one to go up against Mike for the really big bucks. But you all will also be in the spotlight before the public and hopefully the public will like what they see and want more. And you all will enter into a contract with the IPT so in that sense why can't you be considered an employee? And what is so bad about being an employee? But of course the contract might just be a release form in which case everything I said is just plain nonsense.

The main thing is that you must remember is to bring your power bracelets with you.

Good luck.

6 racks in a row? Hell, luck has nothing to do with it. You're good.

The first one was really an exhibition, this second one is an invitational to play. 107 of us will only be watching.

So make the best of it. And put your best foot forward. I agree, although I am pretty sure the "names" will inspire the most attention. A fat old woman who can barely spell IPT probably won't get much media attention, but that's ok, I will try to promote pool any way I can, if they just put the cameras on me for one second - Hi Mom!

Yes, you all will be competing against each other. And you all want to be the one to go up against Mike for the really big bucks. Again, we are not playing in the King of the Hill tournament. I won't be playing Mike until January at the earliest (unless he wants to practice with me to get in stroke on a back table. lol)

We have not signed anything as yet. I am pretty sure we will need to sign a standard media release. If there is a contract, I know he is not trying to be exclusive. KT has said he will let us play in other tournaments. It will probably deal with what is expected behavior on the playing field and in the venue.

The main thing is that you must remember is to bring your power bracelets with you. :D , see the attached picture....

Good luck. Thanks so much!

6 racks in a row? Hell, luck has nothing to do with it. You're good. Well I am a legend in my own mind. lol. I have never been able to duplicate it since, although fwiw, I switched to 9ball after that.

Thank you John and Jake. I hope you will come up and introduce yourselves at the tournament. I look forward to chatting with all AZ posters.

Oh that is priceless.

Especially the look on those two guys.

You do have the right MENTAL attitude.

A lost art in this day and age.

I needed a good laugh.
