2 X 4 or 3 X 6 Case?

If you decide on a JB Case (Barton), then we have many many options for you.

Believe it or not I can make an interior that allows you to fit 3 butts and 5 shafts into a 2x4 size tube easily, securely and comfortably with padding between each part.

If you want more padding then we move to the next larger tube where we can put 3x6 easily with generous padding between the parts.

Since we build the interiors ourselves and since I have done and continue to do all sorts of experiments on how to configure the interior I am confident that we can make you a case which is super efficient with the capacity and still highly protective.

yeah..... I wish I had money on these cases....
I mean I'm sure they are worth the money but if I ever buy one of these I'll hang it on the wall as a picture just to look at =)))))))
in my country you probably won't go far with a case like that ( especially after 9 p.m =))))))))

Well....I also make plenty of cases found here www.cuesight.com that are just as protective and more affordable.

Thanks everyone for your opinions and insight. I think I've made my decision, thanks to Mr Barton (and that other flowery thread). I'll be ordering a JB case! My $3K+ cue will need protection like Obama at a KKK rally.....

Carrying this case as well may fill your need...;)

I agree......If your complaining about the weight of 3 cues and case I think you need to hit the gym for a few months and forget about pool for awhile!!!!!

I also find it nicer to have more room then you use then to have not enough room for what you want...You can always expand with the bigger case.

You forget not all of us drive cars.

I have a 2x4 and its a pain in the ass to carry on my motorcycle. Even using the backstrap it digs in my back.

The 1x1 is amazingly light though when riding my motorcycle cant even feel it :P

Cases

I carry a 3x5 case, and think it is the right size for me. I don't use all of the slots, but like to have extra room if I need it.

I would say get a 3 x 5/6, and let the wife have the old case if she doesn't have one (she may want to play on a night when you don't).

That was the first I heard of John Barton saying he could make a 3 x 5 with a 2 x 4 exterior. That sounds pretty interesting.

There was a poll on here a few months ago. Asked that very question. Seems like the larger cases (3x6 and 4x8) are the more popular than the 2x4.

Although, I don't understand, if the pocket is large enough for a jump handle why you need anything larger than a 2x4, UNLESS you are caring playing cues for more than one person.

IMHO.

Actually I can make a 3x6 with a "2x4" sized tube. And today I made a 2x2 in a "1x2" sized tube. I can fit 2x4 in a "2x2" size tube.

When I say this I hope everyone understands that I am referring to the size tubes that someone would normally associate with certain sizes, i.e. you see a case and think that it's a 2x4 and using my way it can actually hold up to 3x6 with no problem.

With the exception of the 2x3 and 2x5/3x4 models I only do this type of hyper-efficient interior set up for custom orders. The reason is that in order to make it work I have to eliminate most of the padding I like to put in between the cue parts. So I will do this on request but ONLY for a customer that is aware that I am building the case with less protective padding.

Still I allow NO RATTLE and no chance for the parts to touch each other.

These are examples of an over stuffed 2x3 and 2x4 where I haven't modified the interior. I just put more then one piece in some of the holes. But it gives you the idea on what can be done.

2x3 - NORMAL

Over stuffed to become a 2x5 This is extreme.

3x4/2x5 - NORMAL (this is in a tube normally associated with a 2x4)

Overstuffed to hold 3x6

Warning: The pictures above are of cases where the butts and shafts have been put into the case out of their normal positions in order to fit more cue parts inside. Some of the cue parts are touching each other. Overstuffing your case is done at your own risk and we accept NO LIABILITY for damage to your cues should you choose to do this.

However as I said above I can and will make a case that can fit the parts shown in the space shown where all the parts are divided and secure if so ordered.

The advantage to a good 3x6 is that it would be the last case you would ever need. My set up might be ridiculous to some, lol, but having the extra shaft space works well for me as I have two butts, one for a break cue and one for the playing cue, two identical playing shafts, a phenolic tipped and a leather tipped break shaft, and two jump shafts, one lighter jump shaft for short hops and one regular one for the longer shots. (There's an opportunity here for a juvenille joke about the unused portion of the case, but I shall pass.)

Now I admit, it's a lot of stuff, but the upside is that I never worry about having the right tool for the job. :D

I think it also depends on how and how often you travel with your cues.

Good luck!

Looking to drop in and get a Justis, Murnak, Barton, etc.. case. Not sure if I should go for the 2X4 or 3x6. I have my playing cue, a jump/break, wife's cue and a couple of show off cues.

Looking for pros and cons and opinions.

Thanks

Murnak... PASS.

3 x6 if you are a strong guy,

Consider Dennis Swift, Jack Justis, John Barton, Nittany Leather, OnQCases, Rusty Melton, Whitten.

Check out these.:smile::smile::smile::smile:
