20 minute workout

I'm don't mean to belittle Bert at all. I know and like Bert. I've played Bert and I've watch Bert give a lesson and was impressed with some of the things I heard him say on the lesson. I just think that every Pool teacher's main shot is the straight in shot. Starting out by finding out how long they need to make the straight-in before you are not deadly accurate. Saying that this shot needs to be one of your main practice shots.

Bert's shot #1 is a straight-in shot placing the CB 2 diamonds from the foot rail, the OB 1 diamond away from the head rail, shooting the OB into the corner pocket, but "rolling" the CB to replace the OB entirely. In other words, it's a stop shot with one more roll of the CB to occupy the space of where the OB was.

Heres a great way to work on your stroke to make sure its straight. I do this every day before I work on other drills. Set the 9 and 5 balls about 2 balls apart and shoot the cue ball to the top rail and back between the 9 & 5. Doing this everyday will straighten out your stroke. Dont spend a lot of time on it. Shoot say 3 sets of 5 with different speed, lag speed, medium speed and break speed.

If'n you don't like it plonk my name and never read another one of my posts. As a matter of fact feel free to boycott this thread completely or any other thread I start... Obviously you are too good to learn something new or even attempt to try something to better your game. It must be wonderful to never miss a shot and always have a perfect position. I have strived many years to become a player like yourself. I now see the error in my ways... I have to keep my mouth shut on forums and buy Bert Kinisters Tapes. It is all so clear to me now. Thank you. Oh and I have to burn my predator shaft because according to you after 4 months (which is next month) I will have go back to my Joss shaft because the 'magic' will have worn off.

If you wouldn't mind coming to Fla and teaching me the way I would be so gratefull. Please let me know when your next appearance on ESPN is I enjoy watching greatness. Luke I think I just found 5th spot for your Mosconi Cup.

Poor Johnny"V"...has been under far to much hurricance stress here lately. Don't worry Johnny, after Ivan I think there's only one more coming your way so hunker down and board up. It'll be over soon...maybe the doping thread can give you some ideas for "happy pills". Relax man, practice whatever you want and be sure to do it with that Predator. Have a good time, and when you get done, take the 314 off, cradle it in your arms and sing...Lullabye...and good night.....go to sleep little baby........

Always got to go to the homework bit...im gonna make a copy of my report card and send it to you....

I'd love to receive it and I'll make a deal with you...if it's good and I can tell that you didn't make any alterations on it, I'll never hassle you about doing your homework ever again. I might even let you borrow a Kinister drills tape. However, until then...get off of this forum and go do your homework.

I've never watched Bert's tapes, it was Santos Sambajon who suggested this drill to me a long time ago. This is also a favorite of John Schmidt. Believe me, shooting nothing but long straight-in shots every day for as long as possible will improve just about every other aspect of the game.

Could you do a diagram of this on the WEI table? I don't understand precisely where the CB and OB are located. Do you freeze them both to the long rail?

Mr. V

I would highly suggest developing a stroke first. Grip, bridge, stance, and stroke. You got to have a decent stroke to proceed. I would suggest a week or two to develope it. Video analysis is a good way to go. Shoot the video. Teach proper mechanics. Then allow the student to critque him/her self. Now set up the 20 minute workout. If I can seriously help you, PM me.

Yeah, but you could have lied to get the vote count up a little higher and to get Johnny's Johnson a little harder :D .....however, I do agree with you about the long straight in shots. Not only on the draw shots straight back, but also on ultra soft follow shots to where the OB is trickling in the pocket. Any part of your stroke that's off will definitely show up in missed shots.
Besides, aren't ALL shots, other than masse's, straight shots anyway? Try to get hold of a few Kinister tapes, they're pretty good.

OK! Lets here it. What is Bert's 'number one'? Well, maybe your not comfortable giving away his 'number one' and that is fine. I would just be surprised if it was much different than the straight-in's that the majority of replies here are talking about. I mean do you think he is more specific? Like, must hit the pocket exactly at the spot the cloth meets the leather? What?

I may be mis-remembering (happens a lot lately  ), but as I recall Bert's #1 shot consists of this

)END

RSB Table

Absolutely no english, follow, or draw; stop the cueball dead. Is that the right shot folks?

Close but I think the cue ball is suppose to take the position of the object ball... so in essence the cue ball should move only 2 1/4 inches and stop dead. I think thats it or maybe thats another shot in Bert's 60min workout tape.... now im confused

Your confusion is now over because you're correct...the cue ball takes the place of the OB and it's done with a dead center ball hit and speed.

Right you are. It should also be mentioned that Bert does his 60 minute workout on what looks to me to be a 7 foot table. Sooooo, the 4 diamond distance between the 2 balls is not as much as people might assume.
