2005 Canadian 9ball Championships

Cripe, how do ya like this four players bunched together

Jeff Kennedy vs -------|
Alain Martel | | ------
Jason Klatt | vs ------- |
Brad Golan

That is a brutal grouping.

No Edwin Montal, no John Horsefall, no Mike Vidas, no Nick Kruger, no PJ Masicotte, no Rick Marshal, ect.... Some of the best players in Canada are absent from what should be the best field of the year and the most prestigious tournament. Sad.

At least Tyler went.

Dark horse pick, Dave Martin.

Hopfully my buddy Jeff Kennedy can pull up and crack one off against Alain, Jeff is shooting really good.

Thanks for the website Trevor, your right Celtic the field isn't as tough as it should be...but with the tournament out east every single year you can't expect the top players from the west to always make it all the way out there.

A good darkhorse would be Raymond Cruz, but I have to cheer for the hometown guy Tyler.

And three cheers for him too ;)

How does someone get into the Canadian 9ball Championships?

1. You must be Canadian

2. You must pay the entry fee

I could be wrong about this, however, I do see some guys entered who are A level players(in my opinion)or at best mediocre A+ level.

Alot of players don't show up (from the west) because of travel, hotel expenses coupled with the fact that if you don't finish it the top three the payouts aren't that great.

Ithink that they should almost have one tournament in the West (Vancouver or Calgary) and one in the East. Then send one (or two) representives from the East or west to the WPC based on those tourneys. It's rather unfortunate that Horsfall, Vidas and Montel for whatever reasons aren't heading out East. 1. Correct

2. Wrong.

For the NBBA (New Brsunwick Billiard Assosiation)

Here is an I quote:

Five players to qualify for Canadian Championships:
1 - First in points after 17 ranking events.
2 - Second in points after 17 ranking events.
3 - Provincial Champion.
4 - Players who finish between 3 to 10 in final rankings will play for spot. If one of these positions is filled by someone who is already qualified for the Canadians through another event, the person who finished 11th., 12th., etc..., will fill the spot in the play down. Format will be #10 vs. #9, winner vs. #8 etc... Each match will be a race to 9, with the highest ranked player breaking first, then winner breaks. This play down will be the weekend of the Provincial, if it can be started by 6 p.m., or the weekend following the Provincial.
5 - Players who have appeared in 11 ranking events will play a double knockout event for spot.

Thats how New Brunswick qualifys there players.

As you have said that the Canadian have been east yes they have been, but for 2006,2007 they will be played in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta.

How's Raymond Cruz playing this days?

Does the winner get an invite to play in the 2005 WPC in Taipei?

He lost last night to A guy named Mike Roberts from Ontario. Alain Martel also lost to Brady Golan who played flawlessly. Danny Hewitt won his 3 matches but I left before the end of the match between Martin Daigle and Erik Hjorleifson. Both were playing very good pool. The most impressive match yet, Luc Salvas against a good semi-pro player from Quebec, Jeff blais who plays even faster than Luc. The match ended 11-3 and took 20 minutes. Then Luc went on to lose against Chris Orme who played very strong. There should be some good matches today.
For a more extensive coverage go to www.billardquebec.com and click on Championnats Canadiens (I guess you all knew that) there are pictures of players, all brackets and more stuff.
