I will be leaving Thursday of this week for Atlantic City, New Jersey, for the players' meeting. The first rounds begin on Friday with 16 players, separated in groups of four. Each game is worth $500 in the first round.
Last year, Keith drew the card out of the deck at the players meeting to play the FIRST game of the Skins event. He stepped up to the plate, broke the balls, and ran the table. The next player in his group of four then had to play him, but the next player got to break the balls. Keith ended up winning three games in a row, worth $500 each. Each game on Day One is worth $500 apiece.
The eight players who win the MOST games from Day One will advance to Day Two. Now the rules change in that a player MUST win a "skin," which is winning three consecutive games in a row, to win any money. This semi-finals match consisting of two groups of four players will be televised.
The finals will be the four players who have earned the most money and/or skins for the whole event.
I can't wait to get to the Resorts on the boardwalk. This truly is an exquisite exhibition of pool at its finest. The format is that Scott Smith will do all the racking of balls, with no questions asked. Another interesting rule is that all incoming challengers break as opposed to the winner breaking. The Skins was a very well-run event, and every single player in attendance took it very seriously with this much money involved, $130,000 total purse.
If my laptop hooks up okay at the hotel, I will provide a few updates for the inquiring minds back home!
Here's my pics from last year:
