In case you haven't already seen it, or if you want to watch it again, the semi's and the finals are on ESPN today.

The semi is on at 2:00 (Central time)

Finals at 3:00 (Central time)

Thanks for that heads up!!!

I went to 2 sessions at this event here in Vegas but didn't get to see the t.v. rounds.

Well I just had to turn the channel. Why? Mostly because of that obnoxious music they play while they're replaying the previous rack. If I want to replay the previous rack, I'd divo it. What a ridiculous TV format.

Also, I don't think the "interviews" were doing either player any good.

I agree with you, I am really dissapointed in the coverage of this event.

That "score girl" thing is lame, cheesy, and unorganized looking.

Replaying every rack right after you just watched the rack is boring.

The sections where the players talk about the other players seems very unprofessional. Especially when Charlie Bryant looked like he had been partying all night with his 10 o' clock shadow and saying Rodney Morris, "don't know what he knows". Yah, ok Charlie, he "don't know what you know" but somehow managed to win the tournament while you were knocked out already and playing the matches looking half awake and hung over.

Overall, it isn't something I would consider to be even close to ESPN worthy. I hate to say that because I want to see more pool on TV, but with productions like that, how do you expect to capture someone just flipping through the channels???

WOW!!! just like I said in an IPT thread, you get the feel of a Mickey Mouse operation....

I agree, all of the extraneous crap was poorly produced and painful to watch.

The music reminds me of the chessy music they would play during after school specials and videos they showed us in school.

The interviews (I've only seen 2 so far because I had to record it) were as hondo said... poorly produced & painful to watch. The production was more Wayne's World (tv show in a basement) than it was an ESPN show.

I have the feeling that some of the posturing and belittling amongst the players was encouraged by espn to add drama.

I just got back home and was going to watch it this evening and I found out I recorded ESPN2 and it was on ESPN.

Oh well, from the above responses it looks like I didn't miss much. But I am sure it will be on again.

On Friday I recorded ESPN and not ESPN2

No, you didn't miss much. I was actually embarrassed for the guys and had a difficult time watching it. :(

Charlie was sad has been grieving the loss of his close family members and not been partying.

I was pulling for Saez to win it, although he made a good showing.

Yeah, the production of this televised event was extremely poor. And how lame was the Dragon Promotions commercial. I would be so embarassed to even be seen talking in that.

Yes, some of the interviews looked fairly contrived, I'm sure they were encouraging some back-biting among the players. Rodney was doing his Muhammad Ali "I'm the greatest" routine, but without much enthusiasm, very stilted.

Robb Saez was VERY critical of Charlie Bryant, basically accusing him of sharking.

But of course the best part of the Saez/Morris match was watching Vagabond sitting in the second row. He could have at least held up an AZB sign, since he had more t.v. time than the players. He disappeared for the finals, but Jeff Beckley appeared in his absence.

I've got it on tape... going back to find vagabond!

OMG, I can't believe what Mika said about Rodney!!
I  too!!!

You know what's funny about all this? Some of my coworkers when they cruise the channels and come across pool, they'll watch because they know what they know because of me. Anyway, one of my coworkers was IMing and:

Him: I just finished watching some men's pool on TV.
Me: Yeah? So what did you think?
Him: Good shooting but those guys for being Pros are not too articulate.
Me: Elaborate
Him: In between games they would kind of dog each other and to me they just all seemed like your stereotypical pool playing hustling thug.
Me: Ouch
Him: You say that it's hard to get good sponsorship in pool right?
Me: Yeah.
Him: Now I can see why

And there you have it folks. Thoughts from someone who is not in the pool world and based his opinion on what he saw.

I actually thought the last match was ok to watch; at least Rodney and Thorsten played pretty good.

The Dragon promotions commercial was junk. I'm not a Charlie Williams hater but I do think he needs to work on his production quality and commentary skills. They actually advertised their 14.1 tourney though. When was the last time anyone even said the words "straight pool" on TV?

The music was dumb but at least you didn't miss any shots. ESPN cuts out entire racks somtimes.

Why don't they just hire Accu-Stats to do the filming and commentary and have ESPN do the post-production stuff? Comcast sports showed part of the 10-ball ring game with Alex P and Efren yesterday and listening to Incardona/Diliberto is a lot better than Mitch and Charlie.

They replayed the games in many instances because they decided on the race to 7 format, and some of the matches were blowouts. They simply had extra time to fill. I assure you this is the only reason they did this.

The Dragon Promotions commercial was the funniest thing I've ever seen. My wife and I had to keep rewinding it. Mika looked like he was making love to the camera. "Find out where all the hot pool players will be..." and then he winks LMAO. And Thorsten, showing up at the end with the "finger-gun" motion... good God, lol.

I agree that Charlie did not come off well at all, but with the recent loss of his mother, I don't see how that can be faulted. It sounds like he had a very special relationship with her.

I actually thought Rodney came off looking the worst. "I am the greatest living human being."
