2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

Rubilen Amit vs. Hamanishi (JPN) Game 13

Amit makes two balls and has a clear out. She must be careful not to touch a ball when leaning over the table for the one. SHe knows and is using the bridge instead. It looks as though she has come up short for position on the two. No she is lining up to fire it in. Still has to work a bit as she ended up with a close shot to make the four. No problem and she has four easy ones left. All on her now.

She lands on the rail for the six - now the seven and either up and down or three rails for shape. She elects the 3 rail option and SCRATCHES.

8:5 Amit.

Keep it coming John!

Rubilen Amit vs. Hamanishi (JPN) Game 13

Hamanishi breaks and makes two balls. She can see the one cross table but the path to the two is tricky.

She plays a great three rail shot to get good on the two. Comes a little short on the 3 and will probably need to bump the eight for shape on the six. She tries to draw it away from the eight and makes the six as well. Ends up with a backcut on the seven. Takes the cut the other corner and ends up close to the eight in makeable position. The 8 rattles but goes in and she is facing an off angle nine that she makes. Hamanishi closes to 8-6.

Rubilen will NOT get to break again so she must hope she gets another decent shot through a mistake by Hamanishi.

Rubilen Amit vs. Hamanishi (JPN) Game 14

Hamanishi makes a ball on the break and has a clear shot at the one. Spins the cueball with inside english perfectly to get great shape on the 3. Has the four in the corner and just needs to play a stun stop for postion onthe five. She HANGS the four and hooks Rubilen!

Rubilen is stuck here. the balls are in the middle of the table, the masse is sucicide here, a jump is tough, only a kick is sensible. She kicks with left spin and makes it. ends up with a tough five, nails it and is back in line!!!

It's all nerves from here.

Good solid shot to get on the 8. Easy draw to the rail and out - everyone held their breath as she put it away. Rubilen Amit is the first semi-finalist. Boyet Asonto her coach looks mightily relieved.

Yes, that's what I meant. I am tired. The ladies get a break every other match, I am playing every match :-))

On to Xiao Ting and Tsai.

Xiao Ting Pan vs. P.C. Tsai Game 1

I think Pan broke. She is at the table with two balls down and can see the one with no pocket. She banks the one three rails and kills the cueball to attempt a safe. Tsai can hit the one and plys it uptable. Pan has a thin cut to the corner.

Which she makes. The two is open and she just ha to be careful on teh way to the three. No problem. The five is in the way to get to the 4 easily. She comes out perfectly just getting by the five to land perfect on the four. Comes up a little short on the five but on these tables it's a hanger. Bumps the seven a little but is in great shape anyway. Perfect draw to avoid the scratch and it's 1:0 Pan.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 2

Pan makes two balls on the break and can see the two with no real shot available. She cuts it in from a table length away!!!

Ends up jacked up over the nine shooting at the 3. Misses the three - not dialed in yet :-)

Tsai is in good position to get out here - nothing tied up. Runs out no problem.

1:1

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 3

Tsai breaks in in three balls and has a shot on the two. Long cross table. Makes it and kills the cueballfor shape. Overdraws the cueball for tougher shape on the four. The nine is there to stop the cueball though. She misses the four by focusing on the nine. The nine is left hanging in the side. It's more or less a Cosmo from here. Pan runs out 2:1

A Cosmo means an easy out that consists of mostly stop shots. There used to be a trick shot artist named Tom Cosmo who would start his show with 9 stop shots to stop his cueball on a dime. So easy outs became known as "Cosmos"

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 4

Pan makes a ball on the break and can see the two. The four is tied up with the 9. She has postion to go into the 4/9 from teh 3. It's unpredictable though and she elects to comes down table to play the 4/9 carom instead and she nails it. The calibration is getting dialed in.

3:1 Pan.

Thanks for the new term John. We call that situation A-B-C here in the Philippines. If you say "Cosmos" here, somebody might hand you a soda pop.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 5

Pan comes up dry for the first time since Moby Dick was a guppy. Tsai has an open table. with only position on the three a problem. And she comes up short on teh three and only has half a ball available and it's the wrong half.

She goes for the bank and double kisses the three leaving Pan a shot. She should have studied Grady's tapes to kow wht double kisses and Freddy's book to know what banks :-)

Pan plays safe and Tsai jumps for the hit but leaves Pan a shot on the 3. The 4 si tied up behind the 7 however and Pan has a tester here to get there. She will need to put a stroke on it. Pan goes for a bank instead and leaves Tsai long with no shot. Pan plays the 3 to the other end and leaves Tsai long with no pocket. I am lost here on who is on what shot.

Okay Tsai is at the table now and shooting at teh four which she makes and gets shape on the five. Tsai is in line to get out ad she lines up for an easy nine. 3:2 Pan.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 6

Tsai breaks in 3 balls and has a clear shot at the 3. Clear table here. It should be three all in six more shots. She's a little funny on the six because the eight is close. Runs into the 8 and is left long and off angle for the 7. Makes it but runs into the 9 and is left with a tougher 8 than she wanted.

Perfect Speed and it's 3:3

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 7

Tsai scratches on the break!

Pan comes to the table with 9 open balls. the four to the five is tight because there is only one pocket for the five and the seven blocks the natural path. The cueball rolls to far and now she is out of line. She plays a perfect thin cut two rail back and forth to gt back in line and has it easy from here.

Missed the six but thanks to the BIG pockets it went in anyway. 4:3. Player msut really kick themselves for missing open shots on these tables.

4:3 Pan

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 8

Commercial Break - walk into a pool room and pull out a Fury and it's worth 5 games on the wire for the FEAR it inspires. Unleash It! www.fury-cues.com

Kelly scared Pan so bad that she was afraid to miss and didn't :-(

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pan makes 2 balls on the break. and is facing a long two ball. She misses and leaves Tsai a shot but not much of one. Tsai has no good path to the three. So she CREATES one by banking the two! She hit it too good though and rolled too far so she only has a bank. She plays a two way shot and leaves Pan looking at the three cross table. Pan makes it but gets hooked on the four. She is jumping. She doesn't clear the nine and leaves Tsai with an easy out.

Tsai gets out and it's 4:4

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 9

Tsai breaks and makes one ball and has a bank but chooses to play safe instead. Pan banks the one and has a shot on the two. Comes up good for the three. In line all the way. 5:4 Pan.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 10

Now Pan is checking the rack. Makes the one in the side and has a cross table shot on the two. If she gets on the four it's academic from there. No problem form here. Ends up a little short on the 7 and must force the cue ball up and down or around the table - no she plays a stun draw and takes the tougher shot on the nine - but NOT tough for Pan Xiao Ting!!

6:4 Pan

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 11

Pan makes the one in the side, sound familiar? She has a thin cut on the three and spins it up for shape on the four. Now she is fluid and looking very dialed in. Easy out from here. Nice draw to get on the nine. Here speed control is locked in. 7:4.

Tsai is the comeback kid though!!!
