2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 11

Rubilen makes two balls on the break but ends up with the cueball on the bottom rail and just a piece of the one visible to her.

She is pushing to tie up the nine. The one is still partially hooked. Pan is taking the shot though. Pan plays safe by banking the one to the middle of the rail. Rubilen can see it and tries to return the safe but the cueball rolls too long and leaves Pan a shot which she makes. The 4 is tied up but she can go into it on this shot and her cueball control and speed are impeccable. She bumps the four out just enough and is in line for the out.

Pan ends up stretched out for the 8 but she comes two rails and lands perfect on the 9. 3:8 Pan

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 12

Pan makes a ball on teh break and has a shot on the one in the side. She misses it trying to slow roll for shape.

Rubilen has a good layout if the four is free and it looks as if it is. Only the six is a little funny with a window between the seven and eight. Rubilen makes the four-six combo and lands perfect. There are o problems now.

Thank you BIG pockets. She actually missed the five but thanks to the soft tables it went in. Back in line on the 8 and Rubilen should clear the last two here. Good stun-spin to get on the nine. 4:8 Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 13

Amit breaks and makes a ball but loses the cueball as it drifts forward to freeze on the bottom rail and the one is nowhere to be seen. Push. Amit Pushes to a kick shot and Pan gives it back. Amit kicks and gets thin hit on teh rebound. Pan can see a portion of the one. She can thin the one but she sells out and Amit is back to the table with no prize as the three is tough to get to. And she hooks herslef behind the 8. Luckily the four is still tied up. Amit goes to a two kick and gets the hit buit leaves Pan an open shot.

Pan looks to be able to follow the three for good shape on the four. No, she plays the three into the 6:4 combo and the three follows the four in. Pan comes a little long getting shape on the six. Now it's a little tricky to come around the nine. She tries to draw it off one rail instead and runs in to the 8. She is left with an awkward cut on the seven and gets the bridge.

Perfect. Comes up a little off angle on the 8 but she should be able to draw it past the side pocket for shape and she does - BUT the 8 hangs deep in the corner pocket. Amit spins it perfectly to get shape on the 9.

And the match closes to a 3 game difference at 5:8 for Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 14

Amit makes 2 balls but her cueball is all over the place. She ends up with a 1-6 carom which she makes. The one to the two is tough so Amit takes the only position she can get which is long and no shot on the two. She must play safe and comes up short and the safety.

Pan can see the two but not a full ball. The resafe however was standard and easy. Amit is in trouble here. She is going to the jump cue with the two close to the rail. Very risky here. And she jumps the two off the table. That was NOT the right shot there.

Pan + Ball in Hand = Run Out. She plays a nice kiss shot to use the 8 for position on the 7. 5:9 Pan

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 15

Pan makes a ball on the break. Has an open table. the writing is on the wall for this rack. What's the word we learned about easy runouts today? A Cosmo, that's right. This is the type of rack you want at the end of the match.

and it's 5:10 with Pan breaking on the hill. The only good thing for Amit at this point is that Pan won't get to break again.

Pan makes 2 balls on the break and is hooked for the first time on the one. SHe pushes to a bank.

Amit has a wall of balls she can hide the cueball behind. She tries and leaves a sliver for Pan to hit.

Pan leaves a window but Rublien is two facing a long straight in shot with a small window to get shape on the two. She gets there and then hooks herself on the four by misjudging the draw. She is kicking one rail, makes a good hit and is still alive as Pan is left with the four in the middle of the table and the cueball near the middle of the top rail.

Pan goes for the shot to the corner and misses but leaves Amit with a tough shot where the four is frozen to the top rail by the top corner pocket. She tries to play safe and leaves Pan a good shot with a decent chance to get shape on the five. Pan misses and leave Amit in a good postiion to play a lockup safety. The cueball almost drifts too far an Pan can see a sliver.

Pan plays a safety but leaves Amit a clear shot. Amit is in line now and should clear this rack but misses the five. Pan is lightly hooked and it looks as if she can spin the five in. She does and takes a long shot on the six. This is a tester. If she makes this it's all but over.and she does!

3 balls between her and the world title. It's over!!!

PAN XIAO TING is the 2007 World Champion. If the Chinese Taipei folks can't have a Taiwanese then they are surely happy to have a Chinese World Champion.

Rubilen just didn't bring it this time and Pan was ........ Pan, solid all the way.

Congratulations to all the players who played their hearts out here. Congratulations to the Phillipines and China. The Phillipines sent 1 Player and China had 1 player. Pretty tough odds to overcome and they did!!!!

Rubilen was not herself in this game. Her breaks was not there, while Pan had her going. Her safety game was not working. Hope she learns alot from this experience. A very good international exposure against a very tough crowd. She did very well coming in 2nd.

Congratulations to Pan Xiao Ting for this great win!! She sure looked tough to beat today. Like a pool machine

Congratulations to Rubilen for showing the world the other side of Pinoy pool and to all the other players for this a great tournament.

My special thanks goes to whoever posted the PPstart link here so I could watch it.

Once again, John, thank you so much. You made many of us feel like we were there sweating it.

Pan's aggregate score in the knockout stages of 34 racks won and just 14 racks lost absolutely boggles the mind. I wish I'd been there to see it, and I'm incredibly jealous of anyone that was there. Still, your superb commentary helped me to appreciate the magnitude of Pan's achievement.

Wishing you a safe trip home.

Again, thank you for the coverage John. Congratulations to Pan and Rubilen. What they attained, being sole representatives of their countries, is phenomenal.

噢,這真是個快樂的進展……・噢,这真是个快乐的进展……

(well at least for China :) )

Well played by Pan Xiaoting. Rubilen did well for me but the pressure got to her. But Pan was 真的是天才・真的是天才

Time for the Filipino billiard community to regroup and try to win it next year. :)

Congratulations to the top four. Well deserved honors all around.

John, love the coverage.

Congratulations to Pan and Rubilen!!!

Pan Xiao-Ting deserves to be champion for the performance she has shown!

But that's not to say that Rubilen deserves any less! Bingkay is already a champion to the Filipino people! She's a heroine!

I hope there will be more just like her from here! Great job Bingkay!

John - You are phenominal, great commentary, play by plays and writing - felt I was there. Also loved the commercial breaks, informative and infused with wit. Thanks!
