Well done Tristan!

I would say my high run is 90 balls. My best to date was 10 racks in a row.

Yes it's 9 ball.

Dany Hewitt has also just lost out. Unfortunately his first match he defaulted as he was not able to make his match on time. I'm not sure the score of the second. He was definitely one of the favourites that I thought had a great chance!

Just a quick note also. PoolSponge (Jason) had a very good tournament losing 8-11 to Shawn Miller and losing a heartbreaker 8-9 to Ronnie Wiseman. Jay was up 8-6 against Ronnie and missed a 9 ball to win. Several of the pros commented on both Jay's break as well as his skills (saying he was going to be around for a very long time). Anyway, way to go Jay on a fantastic tournament also! Can't wait to see you do better next year.

Tournament is almost done. Jason Klatt won the A side (just defeating Chris Orme).

Chris Orme vs Edwin Montal, winner plays Jason. Chris had a great tournament. He was down 5-1 in his first match against Andre Goyette (I thought he was in trouble).

Great tournament guys!

Just one more quick informational post. Remember a while ago I had told you about our local 19 year old who had beat Jeannette Lee in her first WPA event? Anyway, Marina Linguerri just had a fantastic showing in the Women's Open finishing 4th! Her two losses came to two of Canada's best Naomi Williams and Rachel Abbink.

Way to go Marina! You have made Greenbank Broken Cue (GBC) proud!

Final results....

Chris Orme faced off against Edwin Montal in a B side race to 11 final. Edwin was truly in stroke and between his play and the will of the table Chris was kept in his seat or in trouble for the whole set which ended in favour of Edwin 11-5. Chris Orme took third place honors.

The finals matched up young Jason Klatt vs the experienced Stan James tour points champion Edwin Montal in a single race to 15.

The final battle started out very one sided as Klatt jumped to an early 6-1 lead. That was no deterant for Montal. Edwin evened the match at 10-10. From there Edwin got his first lead of the match at 11-10 and stretched it to 2 at 12-10. The battle continued to see Edwin reach the hill at 14-12. After a foul by Edwin, which needed to be reviewed by video (thanks CheezDawg) to determine that it was indeed a foul as that Edwin didn't realize he had fouled. After that Klatt took ball in hand and ran down from the 2 to the 7 which he missed and left Montal on the 7. Edwin felt the adrenalin creep into back arm and over stroked the position to the 9. Being left a tough shot on the 9 Edwin just missed the long cut to the corner which gave Klatt another in which he took advantage of. 14-13. Klatt then broke and ran a beautiful table to even the match 14-14. On the double hill match Klatt broke, made a ball, but couldn't see the two. That wouldn't stop Jason as he made a great swerve shot to pocket the two and come up very solid on the three. To the shock of the crowd, and Jason as well, he missed the 3 and left it hanging. This time it was Edwin's turn to take advantage of the miss and to the cheers of the crowd made the run through the rack and looked relaxed and confident the whole time.

Edwin Montal is the 2007 Canadian 9 Ball Champion.

A big congrats to Edwin Montal for a hard fought victory. Also I'd like to congratulate Jason Klatt for an excellent tourney. He and Barry McLean, the amateur winner, did a wonderful job of representing Manitoba at the national level. Way to go guys!!!!

Congratulations to my fellow Calgarian Edwin Montal! Edwin is a class act on and off the table and one hell of a guy to top things off so I couldn't be happier to see it happen to anyone else;)

Hey I was just in Manitoba a couple days ago for the Mid Canada bar box championships. Did we cross paths? I played in the "advanced." My friend Rory played in "masters."

From everything that I have heard, this was a very well attended and well organized event! Great job! Thanks!

I went to watch a little, but I didn't play. You had to have played league to play this event, and since I don't play league I wasn't eligible.

Had I known you were coming we could have arranged to meet and play a few games. Maybe next time.

After watching that youtube video you had lately, I began thinking I may have played you before. I played a guy once a few years back(maybe 5 yrs) that was from Fargo. It was in a town nearly an hour from Winnipeg. Small local pool hall with 4x8 bar tables. I think it was a race to 7, 9-ball. If it wasn't you, the guy looked quite similar to you.
