2019 ACUI Collegiate National Championships Underway

I was the runnerup in the ACUI Eastern regional in 1980. Lost to Brian Asch in the final. Brian's father, Mike Asch, owned Hi Cue Billiard in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Nice job, Jim. I won the UMass tourney one year, and the next year the draw magically was done the night before, and I and Rob (you might remember Rob) got each other in the first round. Hmmm.....

That sucked as he and I were the best two in the tournament. I’m still a bit pissed off about it.

Freddie <~~~ only when the ACU-I gets mentioned.

Thanks, Freddie. Looking back, it's interesting how we had a number of good college pool players all in that one room at that time. There was you, Rob, Bryce, Rudy, me, and at least a couple other guys who could play.

We were Lindenwood before there was a Lindnenwood!

By the way, I just happened to run into Rob at Amsterdam Billiards in NY a few years later.

I couldnt stand Bryce. That prep school arrogant smirk wore on me.

There were a few guys that I remember their cues or their stroke, but not their names!!

There was:

- Gino, who played great with a house cue.
- a guy who played with headphones, wore white pants, and used a Meucci sneaky
- a guy who used to work the desk. Played with a Viking. It was he and Bryce that did the draw “the night before” in my other post
- and of course Jim the Building Engineer who used to tell stories of his thumbs being broken, like we never saw The Hustler

We’ll get together some day and I’ll tell you all my UMass stories.
