2021 Schons....

First off, I'm not looking for opinions on the quality of various eras of Schons. I am curious about now.

I ordered a 2021 Schon and the shaft and butt were FAR from flush. Rolled ok, but that joint was not even up to the standard of my wife's Players. So I returned it.

I ordered another. It had a similar problem, though not as bad. You can definitely feel the part where the shaft and butt join (you can feel this on all cues to some degree---but this is noticeable).

I started reading the forum about newer Schons, and skipping past the opinions of Runde vs. Clark, etc., it seems that everyone was saying that John Fuhrman was in charge and was good. But then I saw a post where he is now gone???

FYI - the cue HITS JUST FINE. My problem is paying that much money for now two cues that got past quality control.

Who is running Schon? Anyone else have issues with more recent Schons (2020 or 2021)?

And here is a question: Is it that big a deal (the seam)? Is this an issue with other cues? It is significant enough that I can catch my finger nail on it, but will not stop me from moving over it. The first Schon I bought (about a month ago) would effect a dead stop if you ran a nail across it.

Schon has had some ups and downs since it was founded back in 1981.
Nonetheless, it has always had a good reputation. Let’s see what others say.

John is out, QA is up to someone's son now and his career hasn't been cue building

Purchased three Schon's in the last year and a half. A LTD with a linen wrap, and two SP's, one no wrap, and one leather wrap, all three absolutely flawless. Also have been to their shop a couple of times. Once to have the butt cap replaced after I cracked it when not paying attention to what I was doing, and another time to have a weight bolt changed out slightly heavier. Butt cap was one day turn around in shop, weight change was while I waited, but had to wait about 5 min for him to do it as they were on break playing pool. No charge for weight change, plus they let me keep my old bolt as I wasn't sure what I liked better. Great service, great cues, and a fun time when visiting the shop. Also have three aftermarket Jacoby shafts, two ultras, one black, and one extra Schon, all 30",all fit nice and all roll true.

Purchased a new Schon about 2 years ago, though I believe it was before any turnover. It's beautiful, and flawless in every way. Sorry for your bad luck.

It happens that any product can have a flaw.
Some cars go forever with no major problems but another the same model is constantly in the shop.
I have a Schmelke cue that is flawless but other people have had Schmelkes that were not.

I have a Schon SL-5 and I like it but I can't use it any longer because I can't use a cue with a wrap. Cue is probably 25 to 30 years old. Still rolls straight. Can't speak for the newer ones.

Free advice - don't run a nail across your cue.
