2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

Snooker history. I googled it. :D

yup. probably related to the german word geschichte so i kind of figured it out. i thought luca was belgian-french because of his name sounding latin/french, but he held a speech in belgian-dutch in the eurosport studio for his home fans.

The DAZN coverage gave a good look at every players eye pattern on occasion
It also gives an occasional good look at the hand action or grip as Barry Stark refers to it. Amazing how some appear to be caressing the cue ball rather than striking it. Hmmmmmm

Caressing by poking a stick at it...? You must be quite the hit with the ladies....

If you subscribed to DAZN, Day 15 session 2 is still available in the archives. Starting shortly after the 26:30 mark is discussion of Si looking object ball last. Stephen Hendry praise of his cue ball control is followed by discussion of Si's eye pattern and his(Stephen's) last look at the white. I didn't notice a similar analysis of Luca's eye pattern but the evidence is available.
27:30 gets to the eye pattern. I find it amusing when Stephen says, "It's not something you choose to do, just the way you play."
I will review further and try to find a time stamp for a close look at Luca's eyes. 👍

Well I am required to carry a stick, to keep them at a distance.;) I remember Mike Dooley saying, "I shoot so good I could make a nun take her clothes off. No wait, I could make a whole convent take their clothes off!" Oh Lord It's Hard to be Humble.

Upon further review after the discussion of Si's eye pattern, just watch Luca at his next visit to the table. Doesn't jump out but the evidence is there.

Another thing I find interesting is when Stephen speaks with Judd on his youtube channel, Judd says he started out cueball last and his first coach had him change. 🤷

Time stamp 51:30 has a look on a long range shot of Si followed by a long range shot by Luca, followed with a replay of Luca. The long range shots give the best chance to see the raise of the eyes and when it occurs.

don't know about the eye pattern thing but luca does have an unorthodox style, with the side stance, the long bridge and the elbow drop. very good timing in his stroke. he hits the balls harder than the majority of pros

Only because he Can. 🤷 Besides when he hits it that hard.....if it goes, the shape is on a dime. Or inch pear fect. Only when needed. Look at how many he hit with the pure soft fineness. Oh Yeah, don't forget the Anaconda like defense he produced. Who won that stat?

He can, but Judd used to hit them a lot harder too and has backed off his speed a bit. Even world champions can find things to improve at.

I like Stephen’s statement. When I have to jack up, at pool or snooker, I tend to look at the cue ball.
If I’m having a rough day, I tend to look at the cue ball much more often.
But if I’m having a magic day, I look almost exclusively at the object ball when I pull the trigger.

At 9-ball, I almost always look at whitey when I break…..but once, playing five ahead for a lot more $$ than I care to lose….
….I needed two games to win the set….when I set to break, I could only see the top of the 9-bal in the middle of the pack….
….the 9 dropped in the left hand corner …two in a row….that’s something you can’t incorporate into your game….
….but it’s something you should ALLOW to happen…it’s the magic your game should be open to.

When I was trying to play snooker and got into my stance whether playing off the rail level cue or jacked up I looked at the object ball. I knew where I was hitting the cueball and let my stroke out. When I was playing good and in the "zone" the cueball knew what I was thinking and did it's thing lol.

Here’s a nice one….. by Malcolm Harris

Luca Brecel can be a very impulsive influence to newcomers.
I think about Brecel as Mohammad Soufi at pool, they play as if it they didn't care!

Interesting article I read about Luca Brecel on Yahoo. Seems this tournament really sparked a huge interest from his home country even though the game is not well known as much as other places, to the point that the commentators who were covering it had to explain the way points worked. Also, his matches happened to take place during the Belgian Cup football tournament, and he was still the biggest talking point in the country.

Maybe this win will garner more interest in the game of snooker in Belgium. That would be good for the growth of the sport.

that's a good point, and a good influence. soufi is showing the molasses slow players that it's not as complicated as they make it out to be. i'm simplifying a little, of course soufi and luca are insanely talented, but still it's a positive influence.
