Here are the final match and game records for the 2024 Mosconi Cup.

Scoring the way it counts, by matches:
Day 1 -- USA 2, Europe 3
Day 2 -- USA 2, Europe 3
Day 3 -- USA 1, Europe 3
Day 4 -- USA 1, Europe 2
Total -- 6 - 11 (USA winning percentage of 35%)

Scoring by games rather than matches:
Day 1 -- USA 15, Europe 20
Day 2 -- USA 17, Europe 21
Day 3 -- USA 12, Europe 18
Day 4 -- USA 9, Europe 14
Total -- 53 - 73 (USA winning percentage of 42%)

Match Records of Individual Players. For the following records, I counted a full win or loss for each player in each match (i.e., not splitting the point into fifths for the teams match or halves for doubles matches). So these numbers essentially answer the question: "In how many winning and losing matches was each player involved?" [Note: These records show wins and losses, so a record like 1-2 means 1 win and 2 losses, not 1 win out of 2 matches.]

Team USA
• Shane Van Boening ..... 0-1 singles, 0-2 doubles, 2-1 teams, 2-4 total (winning percentage of 33%)
• Skyler Woodward ..... 1-2 singles, 0-3 doubles, 2-1 teams, 3-6 total (33%)
• Tyler Styer ..... 1-0 singles, 1-1 doubles, 2-1 teams, 4-2 total (67%)
• Billy Thorpe ..... 0-1 singles, 1-1 doubles, 2-1 teams, 3-3 total (50% )
• Fedor Gorst ..... 1-1 singles, 0-3 doubles, 2-1 teams, 3-5 total (38%)
Team USA Total ..... 3-5 singles, 2-10 doubles, 10-5 teams, 15-20 total (43%)
Team Europe
• Jayson Shaw ..... 2-0 singles, 2-1 doubles, 1-2 teams, 5-3 total (63%)
• David Alcaide ..... 1-0 singles, 2-0 doubles, 1-2 teams, 4-2 total (67%)
• Eklent Kaçi ..... 0-1 singles, 3-0 doubles, 1-2 teams, 4-3 total (57%)
• Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz ..... 2-0 singles, 2-0 doubles, 1-2 teams, 5-2 total (71%)
• Mickey Krause ..... 0-2 singles, 1-1 doubles, 1-2 teams, 2-5 total (29%)
Team Europe Total ..... 5-3 singles, 10-2 doubles, 5-10 teams, 20-15 total (57%)

Another way of looking at the match records is to count a full point for each player in a singles win or loss, half a point for each player in a doubles win or loss, and one-fifth of a point for each player in a team win or loss. So the following numbers essentially answer the question: "What numerical contribution did each player make to the overall Mosconi Cup match scores?"

Team USA
• Shane Van Boening ..... 0.4 - 2.2 (winning percentage of 15%)
• Skyler Woodward ..... 1.4 - 3.7 (27%)
• Tyler Styer ..... 1.9 - 0.7 (73%)
• Billy Thorpe ..... 0.9 - 1.7 (35% )
• Fedor Gorst ..... 1.4 - 2.7 (34%)
Team USA Total ..... 6 - 11 (35%)
Team Europe
• Jayson Shaw ..... 3.2 - 0.9 (78%)
• David Alcaide ..... 2.2 - 0.4 total (85%)
• Eklent Kaçi ..... 1.7 - 1.4 (55%)
• Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz ..... 3.2 - 0.4 (89%)
• Mickey Krause ..... 0.7 - 2.9 (19%)
Team Europe Total ..... 11 - 6 (65%)

Game Records of Individual Players. Counting half a point for each player in a doubles win or loss (so the totals will add to 126 games), here are the individual records for games won and lost (including the 21 games played in the 3 teams match):

Team USA
• Van Boening ..... 4.5 - 13 (winning percentage of 26%)
• Woodward ..... 16.5 - 19.5 (46%)
• Styer ..... 11 - 8.5 (56%)
• Thorpe ..... 7.5 - 11.5 (39%)
• Gorst ..... 13.5 - 20.5 (40%)
Team USA Total ..... 53 - 73 (42%)

Team Europe
• Shaw ..... 21 - 9 (70%)
• Alcaide ..... 11 - 9 (55%)
• Kaçi ..... 11.5 - 11.5 (50%)
• Sanchez-Ruiz ..... 16 - 9.5 (63%)
• Krause ..... 13.5 - 14 (49%)
Team Europe Total ..... 73 - 53 (58%)

It is hard to understand what happens to him at this event. With his experience I would not think he would get nervous.

some very good players underperforms in this type of setting, that's been obvious for a long time.

this event had me reflecting on what a pressure cauldron it really is, and what an anomoly it is to have to cope with compared to the rest of the tour. and we (myself included) pick on every little shot selection or ball speed or whatever. it's hilarious.

i won't criticize anyone that was put out there. i hope they got some nice, big cold beers at the after party to decompress, because they're worth it

Shameful from SVB.

He needs to be dropped from the team.
I say that every year, but the imbeciles on here think it's a good idea to have a guy with a losing record on the team.

Even if he shot 49% which would be a tremendous improvement, he'd still be a losing player. I cannot figure out why people on here are so BAD at simple math

How many games did Shane win in the team events? Those should be split up too, if you don't win your game or games, you shouldn't get any credit for the team winning. IMHO

he was an automatic pick due to his WNT rankings. so only way to keep him off the team is to have two players perform better than shane on the tour. do you see that happening anytime soon?

I understand how they're picked - my problem is with the bad at math crowd that thinks it's a good thing he's on the team. Fedor is rapidly approaching being in the same boat

Seems like the MVP decision was very close, I wonder what the deciding factor was? I didn’t see Shaw play.

Was awarding him MVP correct? Or FSR?

Great stats!!

Thx

I would have picked FSR for MVP over Jayson. I think the decision came down to three factors:

1. Shaw put up a very similar performance to FSR while also managing the captain responsibilities.
2. Matchroom enjoys his theatrics and showmanship throughout the event and gave him the MVP to maintain that heel storyline.
3. Matchroom has favorites within the scene and Jayson is one of their top darlings.

There were several sets that came down to a single ball missed or fluked.

The last match Sky hit the point banking the two by a knat's ass that would have changed the outcome of the set.

SVB wasn't good, but he didn't play badly at all. No glaring errors like in the 2023 Mosconi. His opponents also played really well.

I think it was a darn near crime - even lack of respect - that Sky didn't give SVB one of the singles on the final day. He deserved another chance.

As it was, Sky proved little better. He might be our best Mosconi player, but his best is not good enough, either.

He had no position on his next ball though. So would have had to play a safety.

SVB is the best American player, however the Mcup has never been his strong suit. It never will be either, which is ok. He’s a tremendous player and has earned respect in the pool world forever. Nobody’s good at everything so this being his weak link is ok. I always hope he’s going to have a good Mcup. He did get to shoot the winning 9B twice, which is cool.

SVB was due to play Shaw in the next singles match had Skyler won against FSR…

Yeah, but I didn't like Sky taking the first two singles matches. Seems like he felt like he could, and should, take it into his own hands. A bit of overconfidence at the very least.
