2025 World Snooker Championship (No More DAZN)

i've find it's always useful to listen to the snooker scene podcast with WC predictions. it came out today and it's neil foulds, alan mcmanus, dave hendon and phil yates (yea worth listening to despite phil) giving their thoughts. summed up:

phil yates: selby
neil foulds: mark allen
mcmanus: murphy
hendon: kyren wilson

mentioned as a wild outsider is zhao xintong

adding to this:

hendry: selby

some other interesting snippets:

neil robertson hasn't been in the one table setup in 11 years.

luca brecel will be ranked 50 or higher if he doesn't win his first round match.

and another wild pick thought i have. i think joe o'connor will win a triple crown event within 2 or 3 years.

Qualifiers are ongoing, a lot of interesting matchups there like Chinese top female Bai Yulu playing against Liam Highfield. All matches streamed in Max Sports (former Discovery+)
Results at wst.tv

Three tables are being streamed on wst.tv for those of us in the right location.

Does Max Sports have any commentary? WST only has the ref's calls and such.

There was a fairly rare 16-red clearance in the qualifiers by Marco Fu. It was only a 143.

If you're wondering how they had 16 reds on the table.... If you foul and leave your opponent snookered on all the reds, he can declare one of the colors to be a red and shoot it instead. That's the "free ball" rule. This means it's possible to score 155 if you take all blacks with the 16 "reds".

Yeah most tables are commentated. And the stream quality is very good.

i enjoy the zapping style coverage of the last two days of qualifiers. if i like i can pick a match and follow that, but i like three of these matches and the zapping works well when you want to stay in the loop

Ronnie O'Sullivan recently admitted that a late decision would be made on whether he would attend the World Championship or not, having been "scared" to even walk up to the snooker table.

"I’ll make a decision when I feel like I’m ready to make a decision, that will be it,” O’Sullivan told The Sun. “I know I have nothing to prove. But I was getting to the point where I was scared to even go near a table. Not even the match table, just a practice table. And that has been going on for a long time. I tried to play through it. I tried and I tried and I tried. I was getting no enjoyment out of it.

“Even that season when I won five tournaments, it was just hard. I couldn’t keep going on struggling. At some point you’ve got to try and enjoy the game. I can only enjoy it if I’m playing half decent.”

O’Sullivan confirmed that he would be making a decision on either May 17 or 18 —[I HOPE HE MEANS APRIL, BECAUSE BY MAY, TOURNAMENT WILL BE OVER] — with the competition getting underway on the 19th, and some crucial behind-closed-doors sessions are set to take place first.

I know it feels like that at an amateur level some times and I’m not in the same galaxy as a player compared to him. I can’t imagine how it feels being the best player in the world. I remember watching some apa players at leagues just playing to play without any expectations or working on anything or having other apa members watching your every move because your a 9 and thinking I don’t even remember the last time I did that.. just played for the enjoyment of the game. I think Ronnie is the greatest pocket billiards player of all time. I hope he can gather himself for one more run!
