2025 World Snooker Championship (No More DAZN)

i am going to use my april 7th post in this thread as when i said the winner of the 2025 world snooker champion will be zhao xintong

we don't know how his nerves will be the further he progresses. everyone through in the bottom half is a world champion (i'm gonna assume ding doesn't turn 1-7 around) and zhao will likely play the most experienced world champion of them all.

either way, this is a fun edition of the WC. trump vs murphy next, possibly the best match so far

and of course, getting shafted on the conclusion of the Higgins stream
how they are screwing that up I'll never understand
It’s very fair how they handle it…you got a time slot…so does the next match…it’s the slow matches that have to wait for a table.

murphy took the first frame in convincing fashion. he's got that rolls royce stroke going, but his defence is rubbish as usual. have to think that trump will outmove him in a long race

I had to read all about what happened to Higgins' match, why it ended abruptly, and found out here:
Scotland’s four-time Crucible king John Higgins beat China’s Xiao Guodong 13-12 in a ten-hour marathon to set up a quarter-final showdown with Mark Williams at the Halo World Championship. Higgins and Xiao were pulled off this morning, with the Glaswegian leading 12-11. Higgins was left to mull over a crucial missed black off the spot, which allowed Xiao to take the 23rd frame and force further play this evening.

When they returned, it was 49-year-old Higgins who again appeared to be heading for the finish line. However, he spurned a match ball pink. That came back to haunt him, when he later inadvertently fouled the pink by potting it in the middle and left the balls at Xiao’s mercy. This season’s Wuhan Open champion obliged, clearing with 39 to steal on the black. Higgins was again in with the first chance in the final frame. He broke down on 44, but got back to the table and made 75 to get himself over the line.

He’s now won nine out of ten deciders at the Crucible and is through to the quarter-finals for the 19th time in his 31 appearances at the Theatre of Dreams.

From the completed matches. Ronnie, Judd, and Murphy are breaking the best.

looking at the draw, ronnie will never get a better chance to get to another WC final, the way it's opened up. while the bottow half is a gauntlet

not every player cares about going 70+. mark williams used to stop at 70 for the most part of his career. zhao and luca seems to be the same.

obviously you want to cool your opponent as much as possible, but there's a case to be made for racking up and land another striking blow as soon as possible

Oh wow a good Sunday morning with Judd vs Shaun available in the archives. Oh it's good stuff.

"Keep an eye on the white" is the comment just before Shaun hit the incredible shot that convinced me that He did. 🤷‍♂️ I could be wrong. 😉

The opportunity to start scoring isn't always immediate in the next frame though. So I think a player would like to continue a break to stay warm.

Here are the last 7 winners. Ignoring the 2 outliers, Kyren's total centuries and Williams' total 50+ breaks, the numbers are all pretty similar.

i thought the announcer was being ironic when he said luca took a private jet to sheffield and just landed before the match. apparently not:

Does it ever really happen anymore, tho? It seems the promoters are very interested in the stats and talk so much about centuries that they strongly encourage (require?) players to go for the century.

sure. there are no requirements, although i suspect the saudi and hongkong promoters encourage high runs by the means of having looser pockets in their events. other than that it's just for the statisticians.. and of course to cool the opponent

luca up 10-1, with a pot success of 94%, long pot success of 80%, average shot time 15 sec, and more combinations and bank shots that i've ever seen in a snooker match
