Riviera used to host all the pool tournaments in Las Vegas. APA, VNEA, ACS, and starting next year it will be CSI with their BCA events.

I haven’t been in the west gate in forever. Didn’t stay at the Rio for the CSI. But I think the Rio leaves a lot to be desired. I kind of wanted to hit the ACS for the event in May but I won’t get there. Rooms looked like a legit deal for Vegas. Anyway, I hope to check it out next February.

I'm very glad to see the change.

The Rio rooms are expensive and mediocre. The food is crap for high prices. Snack bar: $4 for a small, unripe banana. The check-in is a total disaster: (4PM): "I'm sorry sir, your room is not ready. Come back at 6. Please use the kiosk." The last couple of Rio events I stayed at the Gold Coast where the food was a lot better and less expensive, the room was better, and they were glad to greet me at check-in.

I stayed at the Westgate about a year ago. It was reasonable.

One of the locals told me she spent 6 weeks to 2 months in Las Vegas. Back then all the tournaments were back to back at the Riviera. She rented an apartment, car, bartend to support herself while playing in all the tournaments.

She was lucky, I guess. I was at the blackjack table once at New York, New York and the dealer told me that nobody on the entire strip, dealers, servers, bartenders, takes time off when the pool players are in town.

Vegas, I love vegas. This sounds like a screenplay to me for the next big pool movie.
