USA line up will be led by recent IPT World 8 Ball Championships Runner Up Rodney Morris. "Rocket" Rodney will be making his USA Captain debut as he leads Top USA pros George "Flame Thrower" Breedlove, Tiffany "Rock" Nelson, and Jennifer "9mm" Barretta.

They will face an experienced Korean Team led by Korea born Captain Charlie "Korean Dragon" Williams, "The Black Widow" Jeanette Lee, World Champion Ga Young Kim, and 19 Year old Korea Pro Tour Champion Yuram Cha.

Charlie Williams grew up in the SE US and lives in Orlando, Jeanette Lee lives in Indiana, Ga Young Kim has lived in the US 4 or 5 yrs that I know of. So there is only 1 real Korean resident out of all the players...no need to be a citizen I guess (Unless because my parents were Irish I should apply for the Irish National Team.....)

What a friggin Joke :(

Hi cueball :)

I know Charlie well, we played out of the same room for close to 6 yrs (VA is the South East). Jeanette lives in Indianapolis now ;)

'50,
I have heard a version of this that is somewhat different. I understood that there was no big "payday" involved (mainly just travel expenses); that this was arranged by the Korean national officials with the express purpose of promoting and publicizing the game of pool.

I also heard that both Jeanette and Charlie wanted to play for the USA; but were begged by the Korean officials to play for their team so that the "competition" would be more even. Their hope was that the national pride would not suffer too much, and would help promote the game.

In any case, I do not believe that this is designed or promoted to be a Mosconi Cup/Ryder Cup style competition. I believe it was designed as an exhibition of high level pool, to promote the sport in general in a nation that has a growing interest in the sport.

Just what I heard, correct me if I'm wrong.

You have to hand it to Dragon Promotions. They are working to create an interest in pool and getting paid at the same time. I have no problem with this, I think its a win/win for all involved. The only people who cant like this are people who are disappointed over not getting in on a bite of the action.

Korean

Not trying to toot my own whistle or anything like that, but I could see the Koreans begging them to play for the Korean team. I mean look at China, they beg Yoa Ming to come play basketball every summer. Maybe if Yoa would take the summer off he would be even better for the Houston Rockets. LOL Well enough about basketball.

When I was in Korea I found very few Koreans that were any good at pocket billiards. They were all fairly good at Carom but not pocket billiards. So if they can get these US players to play on their team for promotional purposes I can see it. I mean maybe they just want to get the younger Koreans interested in playing more pocket billiards.

While I question a few of the choices for the Korean squad, I'm not sure some of the Americans should be on this list either. Rodney? Sure. Baretta? Maybe. But Breedlove and Nelson?

Half of this list is a little off.

Faro,
Just a note; I believe the teams were chosen by the Korean sponsors on the basis of availability and popularity within Korea. This is not the Ryder Cup, just an exhibition.

I doubt your local newspaper will be posting the "Korea Cup" points standings anytime soon.
