I just got confirmation from Bob Byrne that the Masons have approved funding to fix their 3 Carom Tables.
Here's his message:
Gentlemen: The officers of the Dubuque Masonic Lodge, fine upstanding
men who are destined for heaven, have approved the upgrading of the
three 1930 Brunswick billiard tables. I will order from Verhoeven in
Belgium three sets of Kleber rubber, three sets of Simonis cloth for
the beds and rails, and three sets of spotted tournament balls. The
rubber on the tables now is 80 years old, and while the angles aren't
too bad, the tables are slow. Master Dubuque woodworker Sonny
McDonald will make new wooden liners so the European rubber will fit
properly on the rails. I'll keep you posted. When the materials
arrive from Belgium, work will begin in earnest and before long we
will have the best playing conditions this side of Chicago,
Minneapolis, and the Jacobson homes in Marshalltown. If the tables
are finished in time, we'll schedule a Midwest Championship next
fall. As far as billiards is concerned, Dubuque is about to be
transfered from a black hole to a shining star. Hallelujah! Bob Byrne
