3/8" facing vs subrail extension

Before you spend the effort on putting the cloth on, I'd correct the transition between the cushion and facing. If you put a straight edge along the cushion nose you should not see any gap of divot between the two. This looks like it has a gap where they meet... or they are not flush to put it a better way.

The easiest way is to take a file and wrap it with sandpaper. Really get meticulous to match the profile of the facing to be the same shape as the cushion nose, and also make sure they are dead flush. If not it really ends up not looking great. It may or may not effect playing but you will be annoyed every time you notice it. You will want to leave the facing a bit large and finish the nose of it this way. It's a bit tedious but very do-able. Just take it slow and remember you can remove rubber but you can't add
I see what youre saying. It's not perfect but I've already called it good enough and moved on. I did use a sanding block. But the neoprene grinds away much faster than the cushion rubber and it all flexes. I am an amature.
Here's the same cushion with cloth.

It looks like it turned out good. I wouldn't worry about it one bit! Being an amateur isn't bad, we all have to learn, and to be honest your work looks WAY better than what a lot of the hack jobs do and they call themselves professionals. :)

Correct, but when you put thick facings on they essentially become part of the cushion at the very ends, its very noticeable around the side pockets. When you add wood extensions you have to replace the cushions because the new cushions need to be longer.
I've only played on one GC that was tightened using these and i thought it played fine. Didn't notice any adverse reactions of balls going in off these thick facings. For the average table owner wanting to slightly snug-up their table they're the nuts imo. Cost nothing compare to SR ext.

What's 1 more plug in a tire that has already been plugged 50 times😉There's more wrong ways of working on the rails than there is right, but most don't care, because they're their own critics, and as long as they're happy, I guess that's all that counts.
