When I was still gambling at pool, this was the game I won the most money at. It's amazing how much money folks who hardly play pool at all will throw at this game, they think it's basically a jack up carnival game.
Racking in a triangle or in a straight perpendicular line is kind of regional, but both are common everywhere. Triangle is more common. Good tight rack is key (check it when you break). Try not to crush it...I recommend an 85% hit, from four-six inches right or left of the spot, full hit on the front ball (as the line from the cue ball sees it) with just a shade (half tip) of low inside English. That should keep the CB parked dead center of the table You should always be able to get a 3 to be any good at this game (you'll hit a lot of 4s to bump the pot). A critical shot/tactic is to work on riding hangers...practice stroke shots that allow you to make two balls in one stroke.
