Kew Gardens, NY (April 24, 2007) – HighRock Productions, in association with Dragon Promotions, is proud to officially announce the ESPN debut of 3-cushion billiards this summer - starring none other than the internationally acclaimed World Champion, Semih Sayginer, also known as “The Turkish Prince”.


Those who have been lucky enough to catch Semih Sayginer at a trade show or on YouTube sneak previews rave of his uncanny brilliance and charismatic presence at the billiard table. American fans will have the opportunity to witness the event in person during the taping at 1:00 PM on May 16, 2007 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.

An entertaining, action-packed, judged format will present Mr. Sayginer competing against two favorite American trick-shot champions, attempting the most difficult shots in 3-cushion billiards. Two thirty minute shows will display Mr. Sayginer’s skills against the legendary, celebrated BCA Hall of Famer, Mike “Tennessee Tarzan” Massey, widely known for his numerous wins in ESPN’s “Trick Shot Magic”; and against the up and coming young gun, 2006 WPA Masse World Champion, Eric Yow.


In this entertaining format, the players will be required to make their ball zig-zag, jump, curve and swerve across the table tracing impossible-looking patterns. They must demonstrate their imagination, power, technique and style while trying to impress a celebrity panel of judges including Jeanette Lee (“The Black Widow”), Ivan Lee, President of Simonis, and Bob Jewett, President of the United States Billiard Association.

This event will provide millions of television viewers the opportunity to witness 3-cushion for the first time. 3-Cushion is an action packed form of billiards that emphasizes cue ball mastery; the extreme spins and multi-cushion bank shots are sure to keep fans watching in amazement. Each player’s cue ball must strike three cushions at the minimum as a rule, but players will commonly shoot five, eight and even ten cushion shots to score under extreme competitive pressure. The dynamic motions of every shot taken are impressive and captivating.

I can't tell from the article if the televised event is to be regular 3C competion, a trick shot competion, or both.:confused:

Gulfportdoc, it sounds to me like it's a 3C trick shot competition.

The non-players I talk to seem to really enjoy most of the trick shot shows on ESPN. Personally, I'm not a big fan of them. However, if Sayginer shows even a tenth of what he displays in his exhibitions, people's minds are going to be BLOWN. Some of the things I've seen him do are nothing short of astounding.

If this is a 3C trick shot competition, I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Hell, even if it isn't, I'm still looking forward to seeing it (but I'm really hoping it is a trick shot competition). I didn't think I'd ever say that about trick shots.

Eric Yow posted a thread about this, and his post made it clear that it's 3C trick shots, but with no props or illegal shots. They're all just legal 3-cushion billiards shots, just incredibly difficult ones involving extreme masses and the like.

I am so excited to be a part of this event. When Sayginer walks to a table, jaws drop. Period. It will be an awesome event, for sure. And yes, it is "Artistic Billiards," where each shot is a fantastic display of skill and knowledge of the game. But, each shot will be a legal 3c shot - no props or gizmos on the table - pure, unadulterated, incomparable skill. I can't wait!

How would you rate the power of your stroke compared to Semih? How about Mike?

Any other pool players out there have a stroke as strong as Semihs?
 
Wow, I hate watching trick shots, but those carom shots are truly amazing. I've seen a couple of carom trick shots in person, but nothing like those!

I've developed an interested in carom lately. It's such a beautiful game. Pool sometimes has beautiful shots, but they are more common in carom. I think it would be great if it were more popular, and I think in a way it might actually be easier for people (non-players) to understand, once they get over the hump of "yeah, but it's not pool".

Anyways, I hope this show is successful!

I appreciate it, very much. As for the comparison to Semih... I look at it like this: In order for the show to be a success, they needed players who could compete with Semih, nearing his skill level, and be entertaining to a wide audience. Mike's stroke is strong both in power and in precision. While I haven't been in the game very long, I feel as if my stroke is strong as well. But to compare it to Semih's? I guess we'll have to wait until the show to see. ;)

I will say this - Semih is one of three heroes I have left in the game, including Miguel Torres and Roberto Rojas. It is an honor to have been chosen as one who could compete with Semih on his own battlefield.

First I heard May 6, then May 16. So it's definitely not airing until June?

By the way, I'm not a fan of the normal ESPN trick shot competitions, but yours and Sayginer's videos are awesome!

Technically, it's not 3-cushion. 3-cushion is governed by a specific set of rules. Different rules will be used in this competition. I think the competition would best be described as a special artistic billiard competition. The shots are similar to artistic billiards but they are not the shots of the official artistic billiards competition, nor is the scoring or format the same.

As for what to call it in general, I suppose a better title would have been "Carom Billiards Premiers on ESPN."
 
3 cushion on espn

This is good news as I love to watch it myself, but I don`t look forward to the kids coming in and trying all the shots they see on tv.

Somebodys gonna catch hell. ha ha !!!!

Thank for the update on this Exhibited of Artistic Billiard. Let give credit to both Dragon Promotions [ Charlie Williams ] and Ira Lee for bringing this to TV.
 
one thing for sure. im brand new to the world of three cushion billiards because thats the first time ive ever seen a pool table with no pockets.
