3 Cushion Video

Thanks for posting this,, I would sure like to learn how to play three cushion,,, it seems to be insanely difficult.

There are some important shots to learn but after a little while you can start to *see* the shots. Selection of shot is a very important part of the game for giving yourself the best chance to score. Trouble is finding a 3-cushion table around to even play on...not as popular as it once was in the US.

Part of it is finding good equipment. Notice in the video how softly Pedro shoots to go three or even five cushions. That's because the table is heated and has the fastest Simonis cloth available -- made specially for 3-C. I recently ran into a table in Bloomington, IL that was OK except that it was covered with slow, fuzzy cloth. Also the cloth was loose -- if you pressed forward with your bridge hand you could get waves in the cloth. The overall result was that 50% of the standard shots on a standard table were pretty much unplayable.

On such a slow table playing straight rail is a good alternative. There are still lots of shots to learn and your success rate will be a lot higher. As a bonus, you will learn speed control that is especially helpful at one pocket.

Pedro created a video of Basic 3 Cushion Shots to help beginners get into 3 Cushion.

Any time a red or yellow close to a corners or rails it is not hard to hit, since your target is huge, shots where yellow or red is about two diamonds from rail are challenging..also any instructions without showing position play of all balls might not prove as good instructional.

The video was meant for beginners. It is almost pointless to work at all on position until a player averages 0.4 or 0.5. Another thing to remember is that the top players play specific position on less than half their shots.

Thanks Bob, i will wait for the advance DVD

Pedro and College Billiards

It was great to see Pedro showing some 'basic' 3C stuff.

I owned College Billiards from 1996 through 2004 or so.
I did not sell the room to Pedro - but I am glad he's there now.

He is a great player (obviously) and a good ambassador for the game.

He gets the Griffin recommendation!!!!
