Five Belgians come to the pool table in Seoul

THIRTEEN DUTCH IN ACTION AT THE SIXTH WORLD CUP IN SOUTH KOREA

by Bert Voorthuijsen

The sixth and penultimate World Cup of this season - which will be played from November 4 to 10 in the South Korean capital Seoul - is of great (financial) importance especially for Quyet Chien Tran, Dick Jaspers and Jung Han Heo.

Because from this season the 'overall winner' and the number 2 and 3 of the final ranking of the world cup ranking will get a bonus

At this moment, the pool hall holder from Vietnam is leading the World Cup ranking with 222 points. He can have the first to get into the books as the first 'overall winner' to go home with a jackpot of 30,000 euros.

At the moment, Dick Jaspers is second in the provisional ranking with 168 points and if this continues, he will receive an extra cash prize of 15,000 euros. For number 3 - Jung Han Heo is now in that place with 134 points - an amount of 10,000 euros is reserved.

The Dutch delegation consists of 13 players, obviously led by Dick Jaspers, who finished 10th in Seoul last year.

The list continues: Sam van Etten – Jeffrey Jorissen, Glenn Hofman – Volkan Cetin – Huub Wilkowski – Joris van ’t Zelfden – Jordy de Kruijf – Joey de Kok – Ronald Geyt – Sylvia Eckel – Luca Philipoom and Reggy Brouwer.

For Belgium, alongside defending champions Eddy Merckx - Peter Ceulemans – Roland Forthomme – Jef Philipoom and Alain Saeijs will be in action.

Last year, Eddy Merckx managed to beat the current world champion, the Korean Myung-woo Cho with 50-43 in 21/20 turns - in a supreme final. (2.380/2.150). He managed to write a world cup on his name for the 13th time in his career.

The Belgian top billiards player is in the world cup title ranking at a very deserving 5th place.\n

The big absence in Seoul is the Belgian Frederic Caudron, who is in the 5th place in the World Cup rankings. He resigned for safety reasons. The Belgian and his wife have received threats in the past and have previously cancelled a tournament in South Korea for that reason.

On the first day of the tournament, Joris van ‘t Zelfden and father and son Philipoom will be in action.

The pool layout for the first day and the start times. The published times are local time and the time difference is - 8 hours with the Benelux. You can watch the matches for free via Soop.

FREDERIC CAUDRON NOT IN ACTION AT WORLD CUP IN SEOUL, SOUTH KOREAN

by Bert Voorthuijsen

Belgian billiards player Frederic Caudron will not play at the 6th and penultimate World Cup of this season, which will be played in the South Korean capital Seoul.

The number two of the World Cup in Veghel has informed that he will not appear in South Korea where the World Cup tournament will be held from November 4 to 10.

His absence may have been related to previously made threats against him and his wife due to an incident with Cambodian photographer Pheavy Sruong or the business conflict he has with his former business partner in Korea. The conflict is over payments for playing games in the PBA Team League.

The Belgian has announced that they will participate in the last word cup of this season, in the Egyptian bathing resort Sharm El Sheikh.

Caudron has now climbed to 5th place in the world cup ranking, which is now led by the Vietnamese Quyet Chien Tran and Dick Jaspers takes 2nd place.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't read the article because I don't read Dutch, but I know there were disputes and bad blood when he left the PBA so, I'd imagine these threats could be related to that.

DICK JASPERS FROM SEOUL ,,I FEEL PROUD WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL RESULT”

by Bert Voorthuijsen

His emotional joy reactions - after the final won against Tayfun Tasdemir - indicated that for 59-year-old Dick Jaspers there was still a busy match.

As if he had won his first world cup, so intense were his expressions of joy in the South Korean capital Seoul and to think that in 1991 for the first time in his billiards career, in the Japanese capital Tokyo, he managed to win a world cup tournament by the Italian Marco Zanetti in the finals to be defeated.

The Brabander was in Seoul for the 53rd time in his pool career in a world cup tournament final.

From Seoul, he gives a brief look back at today's matches:

,,It certainly wasn't an easy final against Tasdemir who is unpredictable in big matches. His precision and perfection is impressive and if the right feeling is there, then he is one of the most difficult players to understand. ”

,,In the beginning, Tayfun just had a little more initiative in the games even though it was at halftime after 10 innings 26-24 for me. Then everything is still open. "

,,When I was a few points behind I made a series 7 and a turn later one of 10. I think those series were a bit of a death blow for him, but you always have to see your final few points made. When it was 48-35 it sure looked good to me and a time later I realized. ”

,,It's a great feeling to win two more world cup tournaments in one season with one more to go in Sharm el Sheikh. I also have a good chance of winning the 'Worldcup overall title'. ”

,,It was a great world cup in Seoul with strong opponents on my way and average above the 2. I'm pretty happy with that. ”

,,I didn't have the feeling beforehand that I was going to win 'just' and it was as tough a match as in the semi-finals against the South Korean Myung-woo Cho. At the score 46-42 I made a beautiful series of four. ”

"It's my 31st World Cup victory and I feel proud of this wonderful result," says the fresh winner of this season's sixth World Cup tournament.
