3 foul question

in all seriosness, what if a player has a guy on two, plays another really nasty hook, and the player coming to the table quickly jabs the cb from like 5 feet away before the guy can tell him he's on 2. what would you guys rule on this??

If you didn't tell him he's on 2, then it's not a loss of game. The player who played the safe should have told his opponent sooner that he's on 2. He probablly could have given the 2 foul warning while he was still at the table, maybe even before the cue ball stopped rolling.

Nobody can get to the table faster than I can tell them they're on two. Nobody.

I don't like the rule change. I'm usually somewhat apologetic when I have to mention it and say something like "I'm sorry have to inform you that you are on two fouls since I'm sure you are aware of it, but I'm bound by the rules to do so."

I feel that to have to announce it to your opponent as he steps to the table for the potential game losing foul is almost a sharking move.

Just remember, if somehow he hit the cue ball before you told him, he is STILL on two and you have ball in hand again. You can now put him in an even worse spot. But this time tell him he's on TWO before you shoot. And you'll know better next time. The posters who said you can tell your opponent they're on two after the second foul are correct. You do not have to wait.

so, there you have it. the point here being, just for discussions sake, is that let's assume it is now not easy to hook him again. yes, you may have ball in hand but as we all know, only certain situations are easy hangers even with ball in hand. so, in effect, the guy is now back in the game when there was no hope whatsoever before because of an impossible hook.

i like tatcat2000's logic on this personally. "convince me that you executed other shots in this manner." although a tad technically hazy, this is a good way to put it.
