3 piece sneaky pete

I'm reposting here and in "wanted":

For years now I've wanted a travel cue that would fit in my roll on bag (I know I'll have to check it anyway, but I want it to fit in the bag I travel with).

Back on RSB a few years ago I suggested a 3 piece cue with two joints at the two third points, allowing for 3 equal sized pieces. I know at least one cue like this was made by Sherm Anderson to Lou Figeroa's spec's (I think he wanted it to match his playing cue).

There's a picture of this cue in the main forum under the "I'm finally going to do it" thread.

Well I never got around to having one made myself but now I want one. I guess I'm asking on this board who can make me a sneaky pete version using purple heart. I would like it to match my Southwest spec's if possible. Oh and I'd like to know how much this will cost me. Thanks.

Personally, I think your biggest problem with this is going to be the pin at the joint closest to the ferrule. There is going to be significantly more flex at this joint, than at the standard length joint, and more than likely a smaller pin. I would be very interested in reading anything you might be able to post about the Lou's cue you mentioned if you can happen to find anything. Good luck, it's an interesting idea.

I think it would be the opposite, the joint area is probably very stiff with the metal pin and all. I agree it will probably be a different hit than a normal cue but I've seen Lou's cue and I know he's happy with it. He's a 100 ball runner btw. Take a look at his cue on the main forum.

I just went and got the pic for you

Alex,
IIRC, Sheldon Lebow made Lou's three piece cue.

Alex I have seen several posts from you in the last few weeks. Does this mean you have quit poker and are back to pool? You play your cards right and I might sell you this!!!

I know, I know it's not purple heart but it's five pieces! Talk to me after the super billiards expo in march when I have a little more free time and I may be able to help you out.
You should check out the tournaments at table steaks on broadway. They have been getting some strong players in there lately. Chris Byrne.

It was made by another AZber, Sheldon Lebow. And I"m not saying that other cuemakers can't do this, but since Sheldon doesn't pigeon hole himself into one style of cue (a truly custom cuemaker), and the fact that he's made one before, I'd recommend him.

Based on his webpage, Sheldon seems to be doing custom orders only, and this sounds like it might be simpler than the type of work he's doing now.

I'd like a 3-piece travel cue as well, but I'd be happy with a nice 19 oz Dufferin house cue chopped into 3rds. As mentioned, the key, would be for the joint closest to the ferrule to not add too much stiffness or otherwise make the hit too strange.

From the pic, it looks like Sheldon used some sort of plastic for the front pin. I wonder what the material is, and why he chose to do it that way? Based on Lou's account, it worked out well.

I emailed Sheldon and he replied last night. I'm going to work out a deal with him. THanks for everyone's help, and corrections, I know I screwed up some details.

Cory, Sheldon's prices are very reasonable, I doubt we'd get a break for two but like I say, they are reasonable. He says he's a month or two away from being able to build one though.

Just go to his website and email him or call him. www.sheldoncue.com

I just ordered mine from Sheldon. I told him you might be interested also.

He uses an aluminum pin into the shaft. He said he's made 7-8 and everyone's been happy with them.

Mine's going to be purple heart with brown phenolic rings at the joints. I also ordered some purple heart joint protectors. Oh I'm putting a moori quick/fast (still not sure what the proper terminology is) tip on it.

Now I just need a case like Lou's...

A little off topic, but isn't that a Chas Clements case?

Yes it is but I contacted him a while back and an injury caused him to give up leather work permenently... too bad.

Thanks, I'll give him a call/email. Please give me the heads up if you find a good casemaker.
