I have noticed that my Kamui is smaller than standard size but it doesn't really bother me that much... I had a friend comment on the fact so here it is.....

The $30 chalk question (2 parts)..... What does a normal piece of Masters weigh in at? What does a piece of Kamui weigh in at?

Don't forget to show your work =)

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Rich.... I found some info that said 17.2g for a cube but I would assume that was for Masters and no clue if the cube weighed was new LOL....

I guess noone has a scale here on AZ even tho I know several of them celebrate April 20th =)

I have both but have no scale. Wish I could help.

Hey, maybe I could get on the bathroom scale, once with and once without the chalk in my hand and deduct the difference :D.

Maniac (thinking the Kamui and Masters chalk are gonna weigh close enough to the same weight to have no bearing on anything)

i did it with 2 cubes with very little use on them and the kamui is 10.5 grams the masters is 15.2 grams they where not new but close so i would guess you get a 3rd less chalk if your buying kamui so for more $$ you get less chalk :frown:

I have new cubes of pre and post flag master and the means to weigh them at home. I do not, however, have any Kamui. I will post the Masters weight in about an hour when I get off work if nobody has chimed in with that information. -Josh

All I seem to have around (in virgin form anyway) is pre flag master in blue and post flag in green. Weights are as follows:

pre flag blue: 18.9 - 19.0g
post flag green: 17.1 - 17.2g

Hope this helps and best of luck on finding the weight of a virgin Kamui cube! -Josh

I just wanted to get something straight, when you guys say $30.00 for a cube of Kamui, that is 1 piece, correct? A "cube" is not some sort of gross measurment of like 5x5x5 pieces of chalk but 1 piece like that sits on the rail of your pool table, correct?

correct, a single cube being one piece of it.

The real weight that concerns me about Kamui chalk is how much lighter my wallet would be if I actually bought some. I've used both Masters and Silver Cup and I have no complaints.. and for the cost of one cube of Kamui chalk, I can give away boxes and boxes of Masters and Silver Cup.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to get me measurements...

I expected there to be a significant difference... I am surprised that the pre-flag outweighs the post flag on the Masters but maybe there is something to the lead theory in the dyes being removed around the same time that the flag was added....

Now If we can get weights on new .98 and 1.21 Kamui LOL.. I have a cube of both but they are both used =)

Why do you care what it weighs?? The VOLUME is what is pertinent. It doesn't matter what the chalk on your tip weighs, as long as there is enough there to do the job.

and I ain't ever buying that Kamuui

If it's of similar density then the weight will give a close approximation of the volume...

I was wondering how many cubes Kamui got out of a pound of chalk versus say Blue Diamond..

I assumed the Kamui would be around 1/2 ounce which is pretty close to my guess while Blue Diamond would be more generous and get fewer cubes per pound but it's made by Tweeten for Longoni so it's production line chalk and not small batch chalk like the Kamui.....

Kamui isn't production chalk make in Asia... no no no.. it's spread by hand into tiny paper cups by virgin mermaids.. that's why you never miscue:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

What difference does the weight make? The Kamui chalk is much better at gripping the cue ball, which in turn allows for more english to be put on the cue ball without the risk of miscueing. It also cuts down on the amount of deflection vs. Master or Blue Diamond chalk. The Kamui chalk also adheres to the tip better, thus there is not the need to chalk between every shot. I can easily run a rack without any risk of miscueing with the Kamui chalk.
I definitely beleive the Kamui chalk is by far the best out there, however, I also think it is way overpriced.
