314-2 Everest Tips?

5 weeks or so ago I picked up a Predator sneaky from Syberts with a 314-2 shaft and the stock Everest tip. I have to first say that I am very happy with the way the cue feels, plays, and looks, but unfortunately the tip is starting to mushroom already. Was this just a fluke with Everest tips? I generally have a soft game and I don't use the cue for breaking so I don't think it was operator error. :) Any 314-2 users have any alternative tip suggestions? Otherwise I don't mind giving the same tip another chance if I can be convinced this is not common for Everest.

What tip(s) were you using previously that didn't "start to mushroom" after 5 weeks? I never had a Moori mushroom on me at all, and I do break with my cue.

You could have your local cueman trim the mushroom, then your tip would look like new...and you probably won't have this issue again. A lot of the Everest & Tigers will mushroom maybe once after a bit of use...but thats an easy fix if you like the tip. Another option is to try the Tiger Sniper...simply the finest playing tip you can buy...and it won't mushroom even if you break with it.;)

Wow, good morning! That was quick!:)

Yeah, real quick, the tip flared equally around the tip from the ferrule out on a straight line to the edge of the tip almost a millimeter in radius. Thanks V'man. I think I'll do what you first suggested and ask the cuemaker to bring it down for me later today.

For the 2 months that I used a 314-2 with Everest, my tip didn't mushroom, and I generally play a lot, at least 4-5 hrs. a day 4 days out of the week.
 
Same here, I've been playing with my 314-2 for about 3 months now, 4-5 hours per day at least usually and it doesn't show any mushrooming at all.
 
No problem yet, 4 weeks

I've had the 314-2 for about 6 weeks, and no mushrooming yet. I did give it a rest for about 2 weeks or so. I was having trouble getting used to the way this plays compared to my previous 314s. I suspect partly from the different tip, and the diffence in the shafts too.

VC is correct. The only tip I know that is consistently stable with no shrooming is the SNIPER by Tiger Products. Generally All other tips shroom and once again VC is correct by suggesting you go to your local cue repairman and have him trim the tips. They usually do not shroom again after that and you'll get plenty of good play from those Everest tips. Good luck.

Taken care of

No big deal, 3 minutes and 3 dollars and the world is a better place. Leo at Chris's Billiards trimmed her down and it looks like it came right out of the box brand new again. He basically said what a lot of you said and that all leather tips mushroom a little at first. It just surprised me since since the only two other cues I bought over the last couple years came with LePros which, in spite of the beating I unleashed on those things, were basically fine and seemed to only slightly pancake on me a little if anything. We have had a lot of extremely changing damp/dry/damp weather here the last few weeks and maybe that had something to do with it.

At any rate, Ah do believe Ah learned somethin' here again!

lol! Actually, I think it would would be big fat "tip" (singular):D

Which in turn would make this comment either a very good thing or a very uncomfortable thing depending on the gender of the source!:eek:

Edit: On second thought, around here it would be, "look at dat pool nerd over by der wit da big fat tips"

The everest on my Z2 is mushrooming, but not severely. I've had every tip mushroom to some degree, some worse than others.


The everest feels, plays, and LOOKS just like a Talisman tip (are they the same with a different name?)

Two completely different companies and if you look at them in the raw, uninstalled form, you would see a decided difference.
