314/2 or Z/2

I have played with a Z and Z/2 shaft and it plays nice, I like the stiff hit, but am wondering about the hit of the 314/2. I think I would prefer to have a slightly larger tip, but I want a stiff hitting shaft. Has anyone played with a 314/2? I don't know anyone who has a 314/2 shaft for me to test so I would like someone opinion instead.

Thanks

even back when i was comfortable using smaller tips i could never wrap my head around how people shot, and shot well, with 11.75mm tips.

When I was testing out the Z shaft I shot well with it, but I know the larger tip size will be a lot more forgiving. I just like the stiff hit, and if the 314/2 hit is stiff, with just a little more deflection than I can live with that. If the hit is not as stiff I will go with the Z2 shaft. I am hoping to try someones 314/2 but have not found anyone I know that uses one.

Yes, the 314-2 will feel stiffer. If you tell me what other shaft you have played with I or someone help you get a an idea on how it will feel.
Assuming you like the tip size of 11.75mm and you just want it to feel stiffer.
I would recommend the OB Classic pro. I would say 99% that you would be happy. IMO it will deflect about the same as a 314-2.
Royce is a great guy and awesome to work with.

would you say it's as stiff as the 314-2?

If your not in deadstroke all the time the smaller tip is not forgiving and especially on long straight shots. As far as stiffness the 314-2 plays really stiff but I think allows you to execute all your shots without having to over think. The OB's have a nice feel but after a stretch of hitting balls with one I still knew the Predator is the best.It took me along to except that a Predator shaft made me a better player so I tryed a ton of shafts, customs shafts just to convince myself that I could shoot the same without one.Well it's all about comfort and confidence and that's why I can't shoot without a Predator.Forget about all the other shafts and if I were you ,if I couldn't find a old Predator, stick with the 314-2 shaft all the way.

Thanks man i appreciate the input.

i'm actually toying with the idea of selling everything i own (cue related that is) and buying a predator shaft for my mezz and a j&j and just sticking with that until i can play.

been caught up on az and cues too much and forgot i'm actually supposed to play pool!lol.

peace!

So you guys are saying the 314-2 is stiffer than the Z shaft? I finally got a chance to go to a predator dealer near by and test out both shafts, and it seemed like the Z shaft was stiffer. Before I pull the trigger and buy I will probably go back there and try them out a few more times, but I felt the Z shaft was a stiffer hit, but if it is not I would prefer the tip size of the 314-2.

Thanks for the responses!

Which Mezz do you have? I'm torn between buying Z series with a WD700 and a basic Pred with a 314-2.

Any thoughts on how the 2 would compare?

Going back to comparing the 314-2 to the OB classic pro.
I just hit them both in my basement.
I think the classic pro even with the smaller tip has a stiffer hit or feel to it.
I am pretty sure this is by design by OB for those who want a stifff shaft.
So it is really going to comes down to what you want.

Keep in mind this is my opinion. However, I can not believe at all that the Z2 shaft feels stiffer than the 314-2. When comparing verify if they both have the same tip on them or at least they are about the same hardness. If you try them at the same time the would be the best.

I don't own a Mezz, could not teel you a thing about them.

Hope this helps someone :)

Hey Twal,

I was wondering about stiffness because I have heard a lot of players say they use the Z shaft on nice equipment, but when they play on bar boxes, or with a set of heavier balls they use their 314-2 shaft. I figured this means the 314-2 was a harder hitting shaft, but when I hit with the Z and the 314-2 it didn't feel like the 314-2 was stiffer.

I currently play with a retired 1997 McDermott and now that I have been playing for a while I do not like the whippy type feeling of the shaft. I def prefer a stiffer shaft. I also like a harder hit vs the softer hit that the wood to wood 3/8-10 pin provides.

I don't think that 314-2 is stiffer but not that far off.The z-2 is a little bit stiffer, but for me I can execute many more shots with the 314-2.I think the Z-2 really spins the ball but I prefer to pot balls with as little spin as possible. It depends on what kind of player you are and what your game is like.I'm a player that likes to roll balls in and play as much center ball with natural angles as possible. With the smaller tip I lose the cue ball easier if I'm not in deadstroke.Goodluck:smile:

i've got an old discontinued model. it's a BC-N. it came with the pre hi tech PUJ shaft. i've tried the wd700,hp1,alpha and puj shaft and i'm looking to get a 314 or a WD700 for my cue now. possibly a HP1 but nobody has them anymore

imo it's a coin toss. the WD has more feel to it but i've only tried the 12.5mm one and that was too smal for me. deflection wise they're both about the same. i think i'm going to go with the WD shaft first just because it's a hair cheaper.
