314-2's are fantastic. Just wanted to say that. They may snap, break, warp, unglue and specialise in the latest ferrule cracking technology, but they play great.

I don't care it'll need replacing every couple of years. Damned mofo has me hooked. The one I have even makes me appreciate the Everest tip, it's that good.

314-2's rule, especially on a Predator butt.
 
They do play well, even though those things you mention do happen. In my experience, just need to treat the shaft like a tool that needs to be updated or replaced every few years.

Have you tried the OB Classic or Mezz WD-700? I have all 3 right now, and have to say my favorite is probably the Mezz, more of a classic shaft feel and same deflection properties as the Pred.

I have been using pre cat 314's and 314-2's for over ten years with absolutely NO issues. Maybe I am just lucky but I love'em !!!
 
Nothing.plays as well

IMO, and I have tried them all. Almost no deflection and moving the rock is effortless. I cracked a no cat 314 ferrule once and they sent a brand new one.

At one time I had all four of the different 314s; wish I wouldn't have sold any of them.

I also have an OB Classic that I really like, but it's extra weight adds a little too much to my old Joss cue. So I use a 314 on the Joss, and the OB on cues that are a half ounce lighter.

I have a few 314's and have never had problem with one.
Much prefer them over the OB's.
My favorite combo is a 314 with either a medium or soft kamui black on it.
Plays amazing.

Why not buy a 314 fat shaft and have it take. Down a little. More wood around the hole they drill might keep so e of that from happening

The small 314's and the pre-2 314's don't have the problems that the new ones do. It's the factory in china making a shabby product
