So I think I am ready to try and have my first custom cue made. I know what I want for the most part and I know who I want to make it. Is it typical to reach out to a cue maker to ask them about pricing and timelines and what not? I dont want to offend anyone or not be taken seriosly but I would like to know how much more I need to put together and a few other things. any info would be great.

on a side note i have been reading azb for years and just recently started posting i wanted to thank you all for being welcoming and helpfull with all of my questions and things and i look forward to playing some of you in the future. the expo is only about 40 mins from my work maybe i will stop down for a day check things out

If you don't ask, you won't know. Also, while it's great to have a particular person in mind, shop around a bit and see what different quotes you get. Then you'll know if one particular cuemaker is overcharging for their work.

Finally, do a search for their name on here and see if there are any complaints about them, their work, or their work ethic. It costs less to be informed.

Go to the expo. There will be a hundred cuemakers in attendance (custom, production, displaying, and walking around). Ask.

I recommend once you get an idea who you would like to build your cue type it up and make sure both of you get a copy so there is no misunderstandings.

I am waiting on cue for 7 years and paid a 25% deposit for a cue promised delivery of 5 years.... After taking a deposit, then later wanting to change the price. This cuemaker is worshiped on AZ and on TAR, but in PM messages this common for this cuemaker.

Most cuemakers do not make delivery on time.

After dealing with the above, I find it easier and cheaper to deal with the secondary market...

i have had a few. i curretly use a frey sneaky. and i have had a few cues all secondary i actually want one made to my specs. thanks for the info i have done most of my homework i guess i just needed the push to actually reach out.
