What I find interesting is the shooter in this painting is very well balanced, and proper shooting form. Pretty observant of the painter, must of done it in live time eh ??
the table seems a little lo... maybe its cuz people were shorter back then... and the shooter is tall...

"Starry, Starry Night" is a Don McClean song from back in the 70's. "Starry Night" is a painting by Vincent van Gogh

My mistake, but you know what I was referring to.

I wouldn't put that painting on my wall if you paid me.

But hey, some people get a buzz out of pretending they see deep meaning in impressionist crap.
LOL :p ..............................................................

About 2000 years ago Cicero said "Man can neither love nor hate what he does not know". The beauty of art is in the eyes of the beholder and I would certainly love to have that painting in my home billiard room next to the Neiman painting of the Kentucky Derby. Does anyone have an extra of Neiman's Muhammad Ali?
I hear that! And I wish I had a giant home with lots of wall space, closets-full of cash to spend on covering those walls with great art, and a staff of assistants to keep them all dusted. And while they are doing that, I'll be flying my P-51 Mustang in dogfights and airshows and otherwise hallicinating... All it takes is money. I guess I should get back to work and make some!

Sorry to Hijack your thread Mikie, but what model plane do you fly regularly- or do you own one? I have flown an RV4, and was interested in building one, but now I don't have the space.

RV-4s are awesome, but I would be afraid to fly a plane I built!

My airplane, shown in the avatar, is a Waco Classic Super Model YMF-5. It an open cockpit biplane designed in the early 30s, The Golden Age of Aviation. Certainly the prettiest biplane that ever went flying. I flew mine for 7 years, all over the USA and Europe, just for the fun/adventure of it. Lots of stories (click here). Stopped flying to do other stuff, like shoot pool. Flying, like pool, takes up a lot of "bandwidth", if you do it right...

I agree.. that is a beautiful plane.. but if I had the money, I would have a Pitts if I could for the hell of it. I think I messed up by not becoming a commercial pilot, but oh well.. that and 100 other mistakes I've made.. No wonder I'm broke! lol

Aye, the Pitts is a real bullet! Totally effortless aerobatics. I have several hours in them. Lands really fast. You gotta be dancing on those rudder pedals with a tailwheel airplane!

Update...

The painting of The Hustler, by Leroy Neiman, went up for auction on Dec. 3, but failed to sell for the reserve, which I am now told was $180,000. And according to the selling gallery, it can be purchased at that price (180k) until Thursday at 5pm, at which time it goes back to Neiman's studio. My guess is that it could probably be bought for less than that number after that because there would be no fees for auction house or gallery. Seems there is a HUGE variation in price for art, and newbies can get totally scalped... kinda like pool.

;o)

Pay me $100 Gs and I'll knock it off for you. I've been dying to actually sell something I've painted instead of giving away. But you'll have to frame it yourself. LOL everyone knows that frames are usually worth more than the art they hold.
