I have a 1x1 case and it's all I've ever needed.
ETA: Okay, now that I've read the rest of the thread...I don't use a jump cue, break with my playing cue and have never had a tip fall off. If that were to happen I would just play off the wall. I usually do that when I'm out of town anyway.
If I were at a tournament and my tip fell off and there were no house cues I would buy a cue. And probably a case because then I'd have two cues to bring home...
I don't carry chalk or a tip shaper either. I use my keys to roughen up the tip and money to clean the shaft. If there's no chalk I just stop using english. Usually run out more that way anyway
You kids! Get off my lawn!!!
On a serious note though, I now have three playing cues and it would be nice to be able to take more than one with me. The other day I went out to just play with one of the ones I don't use that often and they had a tournament that night and so I played in it. It was on hella tight equipment and the difference in the shaft size was hurting me enough to where I missed several shots due to it. It would have been nice to have my regular player with me that night. So I have been looking for a new case. For the OP I would advice something bigger than a 1x2. Otherwise you'll just end up buying another bigger case in a year or two.
