3c Billiard Table Questions/ Search

I have decided to take the leap and purchase a billiard (pocketless) table and had some questions: Unfortunately, I only have room for a 9' table. I am looking at a Gold Crown, mainly because I can (would think I want to) purchase an apron and convert the table to a pocketed one, should I wish to do so at a later point.

As far as going back and forth, how does the fact that the cloth for pool vs. billiards is so different affect the swap? Is there the possibility that I could actually play both games on the same bed, or am I hoping for something impossible?

How do gold crowns measure up to true 3c tables? Would I be able to use the standard size billiard balls or does the cushion/ nose height dictate I use balls that are normal pool ball size?

Finally, does anyone know if there is a US distributor for these tables (Hollywood Billiard Tables)?:

I just bought an Elitte Pro 5x10 three cushion table last July from the BCA trade show in Las Vegas.I got a good price, and free delivery to my home in Arizona. It has a twelve point leveling system,two inch slates,Gorina Granito M cloth and heaters on the rails and slates.I set it up myself.Now I play anytime all day long. Thanks for your input, illusivetrout! I wish I could fit a 10' in the space I have ...I have seen a few available in the $6k range and would love to be able to pull the trigger on one.

About these headaches, any in particular that you could share related to choosing a gold crown? My instincts push me toward one of the Hollywood tables (previously linked), though I may not be able to get anyone to sell me one...

Smaller carom tables ? ... think about Gabriels !

If room size is an issue, please keep in mind that in the Netherlands and Belgium the majority of all competitions is played on smaller tables. The dimensions are 230x115 centimeters (comparable with 8ft Pro)

As this is a common domestic product,so the Gabriels tables might be an alternative? I recommend you to take a closer look at the Imperator or Vision model....

Most of the table is in my garage in Lawrence, Kansas; one piece of slate is in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The table was in good playing condition when I took it down three years ago and could be made so again with some work.

If you like playing on a fast table 3C cloth will be ok. My opinion is Simonis is a bit slower. You might consider using pool cloth on your pool rails when you make the switch.

Again my opinion is Gold Crowns don't make very good 3C tables. They tend to play short. Possibly converting to European Rubber would help. I've played on converted pre Centenial - Anniversary (non T-Rail) and they play OK. I think it's the light weight rails that primarily make the difference. Most European tables are at least 1-1/2 to over 2" slates.
A 3C Gold Crown "should" have the proper rail height for 61.5mm balls. I say "should" because this may also be the reason for them playing short. When you put on the pool rails then the height will change for that game so no need to worry about finding undersize 3C balls. If you were to use a pocket plug system then you'll have a height issue.

This table looks well built. I'd like to try one sometime. I heard that Diamond or Gabriel has an interchangable rail system where the rails are attached with rare earth magnets. I should be able to try one in a few months. A little sceptacle but we'll see. The one being purchased is 9'.
